Eddie Jones has slammed World Rugby\u2019s recent Shape of the Game conference, which he claims had a \u2018predictable\u2019 outcome.<\/p>\n
200 key rugby figures from around the globe met in London last week to discuss the future of the sport, but the news was that there was effectively no news.<\/p>\n
A World Rugby<\/a> statement suggested there was an agreement that the sport on the field was in a good place, with no new law amendments set to be trialled globally over the next year.<\/p>\n Elsewhere, there was not an update given on the global season discussion, which was also a topic of conversation at the event.<\/p>\n Eddie Jones vents frustration<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a joke mate. The game needs to get sorted out, we can all see that, but because they had so many people in a room in so many different areas, they couldn\u2019t come to a decision on anything,\u201d Jones<\/a> told the Rugby Unity podcast.<\/p>\n \u201cThey all hold hands at the end, have a gin and tonic, so it\u2019s all good.\u201d<\/p>\n Fellow former Wallabies head coach Ewen McKenzie agreed, suggesting it might have saved time, money and energy not to have it at all.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s hard to know what to say really. We could have written that and saved the 200 flights and the 200 hotel rooms,\u201d McKenzie said.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s the same broad brush statement you would make anyway. They would just say that anyway. \u2018The game\u2019s in good shape\u2019; of course they\u2019re going to say that, otherwise they\u2019re doing a bad job.<\/p>\n \u201cThe fact that they flipped it across to commercial and fan stuff, that\u2019s not even their charter. It\u2019s about the game itself I would have thought, they shouldn\u2019t be talking about commercial.<\/p>\n \u201cThey should be talking about the actual specifics of the game and whether they can make it better.\u201d<\/p>\n World Rugby confirm \u2018universal agreement\u2019 over law changes following Shape of the Game summit<\/a><\/p>\n As McKenzie alluded to, the supporters have become a key part of World Rugby\u2019s target as they look to \u201cbetter explain, sell and celebrate\u201d the sport, but Jones insists that it is not part of their remit.<\/p>\n World Rugby \u2018incapable of making decisions\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cI think we predicted this at the start, nothing\u2019s come out. It\u2019s like their strategic plan,\u201d the Japan head coach said.<\/p>\n \u201cThe whole organisation is incapable of making decisions about the game, the way it\u2019s structured. It\u2019s not the personnel, it\u2019s not the people, it\u2019s the way it\u2019s structured, and it\u2019s just a continuation of it.<\/p>\n \u201cWorld Rugby\u2019s not about fans, World Rugby\u2019s an old man\u2019s society to enforce the charter of the game. The fans, that\u2019s all for the member unions to look after and they all look after that differently.<\/p>\n
