Amy Winehouse<\/a>\u2019s goddaughter Dionne Bromfield has criticised the BRITs<\/a> for \u201cinsulting her legacy\u201d in the tribute to the late music icon.<\/p>\n

The 2026 awards ceremony was held at the Co-op Live in Manchester on Saturday (February 28), and saw Grammy-winning producer and DJ Mark Ronson honoured with the Outstanding Contribution Award.<\/a><\/p>\n

It was given to him as, over the course of two decades, he has produced various multi-platinum tracks, including Amy Winehouse\u2019s \u2018Back To Black\u2019 and \u2018Valerie\u2019, Bruno Mars<\/a>\u2019 \u2018Uptown Funk\u2019, Dua Lipa<\/a>\u2019s \u2018Electricity\u2019, and Miley Cyrus<\/a>\u2019 \u2018Nothing Breaks Like A Heart\u2019.<\/p>\n

During his acceptance speech, Ronson reflected on meeting Winehouse, and said that writing \u2018Back To Black\u2019 was a day that \u201cchanged my life forever.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI know the music I made with Amy is the reason that any of them know who I am anyway. That\u2019s why I always treasure her voice, her talent and our bond, all of it,\u201d he continued, before later paying tribute to the late singer by breaking out a rendition of \u2018Back To Black\u2019, before inviting the Dap-Kings \u2013 her live band \u2013 on stage to perform \u2018Valerie\u2019.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

While the performance was warmly received by many, some viewers took to social media to share that they thought Winehouse\u2019s goddaughter, Dionne Bromfield \u2013 also a singer \u2013 should have been involved in the tribute.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like the #BRITs have missed an opportunity to have Dionne Bromfield pay tribute to her godmother, and sing the lead on the Amy Winehouse tribute part of Mark Ronson\u2019s set,\u201d one person wrote on X\/Twitter \u2013 to which Bromfield replied with the shrugging emoji<\/a>.<\/p>\n

She later went on to clarify her stance, alleging that her not being invited to take part in the tribute was one of many instances she has seen of \u201cdoors [being] deliberately closed\u201d to her following Winehouse\u2019s passing.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to be clear, this was never about me being on a stage for the sake of being seen or \u2018the look\u2019. This is much deeper than that,\u201d she began. \u201cSince Amy\u2019s passing, I\u2019ve faced years of specific people within the industry and surrounding it, making it incredibly difficult for me to move forward and progress in my career.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added: \u201cAmy championed me musically in ways that didn\u2019t always align with others around her, and after she passed, that was made clear, opportunities for me were blocked and doors were deliberately closed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bromfield also added that the night felt like \u201canother reminder of what I\u2019ve been dealing with for many years\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo see so many of the people she loved musically included, while I wasn\u2019t felt like an insult not just to me, but more importantly to Amy and her legacy,\u201d she wrote. \u201cI\u2019m not one to air my dirty laundry, but there\u2019s only so much someone can take and sometimes things need to be called out.\u201d<\/p>\n

She then went on to respond to a few people who replied to her, adding that<\/a> she felt like the lack of an invitation was \u201cdefinitely was NOT an oversight\u201d, and sharing that she \u201chasn\u2019t released music in a long time, and it hasn\u2019t been for lack of trying\u201d.<\/p>\n

Bromfield performed with Winehouse on an episode of Strictly Come Dancing back in 2009, and paid tribute to her godmother during her set at V Festival after Amy\u2019s death in 2011<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Her debut album, \u2018Introducing Dionne Bromfield\u2019 came out in 2009, and was followed by 2011\u2019s \u2018Good For The Soul\u2019. In 2021 she dropped the single \u2018Silly Love\u2019, and last month released a new song called \u2018Green Light\u2019.<\/p>\n

An artist who did join Ronson in his performance at the BRITs was Dua Lipa<\/a>, who made a surprise appearance to perform \u2018Dance The Night\u2019 \u2013 their collaboration from the Barbie soundtrack \u2013 as well as their single \u2018Electricity\u2019.<\/p>\n

With his win for Outstanding Contribution, Ronson joins an impressive list of past-winners, including David Bowie<\/a>, Oasis<\/a>, Sir Paul McCartney<\/a>, Spice Girls<\/a>, Elton John<\/a>, Queen<\/a>, U2<\/a>, Robbie Williams<\/a>, P!NK<\/a> and Blur<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Other artists who took home prestigious awards on the night include Noel Gallagher<\/a> (awarded the Songwriter Of The Year award<\/a>), PinkPantheress (Producer Of The Year<\/a>), and Ozzy Osbourne (BRITs Lifetime Achievement Award).<\/a> The latter came following his passing in July<\/a>, and included a tribute performance from Robbie Williams <\/a>alongside members of Ozzy\u2019s band over the years.<\/p>\n
