PUTRAJAYA (Aug\u00a06): Malaysia will\u00a0launch its National Cloud Computing Policy (NCCP) at the upcoming Asean AI Malaysia Summit 2025 (AAIMS25), marking a strategic milestone in the country\u2019s digital transformation journey and regional leadership in trusted cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) adoption.<\/p>\n
Digital Ministry secretary general Fabian Bigar said the strategic policy, which will be launched on Aug 13 by Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo,\u00a0will\u00a0outline Malaysia\u2019s vision to strengthen national cloud infrastructure, promote trusted and secure data governance, and accelerate cloud adoption across both the public and private sectors.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a foundational enabler for AI and digital innovation, the NCCP sets the stage for a resilient, inclusive, and future-ready digital economy,\u201d he told a media briefing here on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The two-day\u00a0AAIMS25 will be held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre,\u00a0Kuala Lumpur, beginning Aug 12, with Prime\u00a0Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expected to launch it.<\/p>\n
Fabian said the\u00a0summit aims to attract more than 1,500 participants, including representatives from Asean member states, Timor-Leste, dialogue partners, and the broader AI ecosystem.<\/p>\n
It\u00a0provides the ideal setting to demonstrate how cloud and AI will work in tandem to deliver national impact, foster regional cooperation, and unlock new opportunities across Asean\u2019s digital ecosystem, he opined.<\/p>\n
Fabian also said that among programmes to be\u00a0highlighted across the summit are keynotes by senior government leaders and global AI experts, ministerial and multilateral dialogues on digital trust and governance, panels, fireside chats\u00a0and roundtables exploring AI policy, infrastructure, and sectoral transformation.<\/p>\n
It would also offer\u00a0targeted engagement opportunities for developers, researchers, startups, and youth leaders. There will also be an\u00a0exhibition and showcase of Malaysian AI applications and use cases.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe content framework is anchored in five strategic clusters, each designed to explore a critical dimension of Asean\u2019s AI future.\u00a0These clusters ensure that the summit balances vision with implementation, thought leadership with real-world impact, and policy with innovation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe five clusters are\u00a0Governance,\u00a0Ethics and Trust;\u00a0Infrastructure, Cloud and\u00a0Compute Sovereignty;\u00a0Sectoral Applications;\u00a0Talent Development and\u00a0Workforce Transformation; and\u00a0Emerging AI Frontiers, including agentic AI and system interoperability,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Fabian said AAIMS25\u00a0aims to deliver several key outcomes to build a unified and responsible AI future for the region. There will be an\u00a0Asean digital ministers\u2019\u00a0joint statement, which\u00a0will\u00a0align policies, identify shared priorities, and build consensus on harmonised frameworks for AI and digital governance, fostering a trusted digital ecosystem across the region.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe summit will advance discourse on regional AI frameworks, namely the Asean Guide for AI Governance and\u00a0Ethics, and the Asean Responsible AI Roadmap. These frameworks will build on and translate\u00a0into tangible regional actions to ensure an innovative\u00a0AI development and deployment across Asean, upholding\u00a0safety, fairness, and accountability.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe event will encourage significant public-private investment to democratise AI access. It will also drive the creation of regional \u2018sandboxes\u2019\u00a0for safe innovation, and advance\u00a0Asean AI safety-network development, to promote exchange of knowledge and best practices\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0region,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
