Police say the driver of a stolen car that was split in half in a crash in Melbourne’s south-west overnight fled the scene and is yet to be found.<\/p>\n

Emergency services were called to Point Cook Road at Seabrook after reports that a vehicle had crashed into a tree.<\/p>\n

Police believe the 2011 Toyota Kluger was travelling at speed when it went through a roundabout, struck a gutter and crashed into a tree.<\/p>\n

The vehicle was torn in half, with part of it found resting against the tree and another section, including the driver’s seat and steering wheel, resting several metres away in a bush.<\/p>\n

There was no sign of the driver, who police believe was a young male and may be injured.<\/p>\n

Police said they held grave concerns for him given the seriousness of the crash and the likelihood of injuries.<\/p>\n

The vehicle is believed to have been stolen in a carjacking at Leverton Railway Station about five minutes before the crash.<\/p>\n

Protective Service Officers patrolling the area raised the alarm after a man reported he had been pulled from his vehicle by another male, who then fled the scene in the car.<\/p>\n

Transit Crime Investigation Unit detectives are looking into the circumstances of the carjacking and subsequent crash.<\/p>\n
