{"id":516756,"date":"2026-03-03T21:21:16","date_gmt":"2026-03-03T21:21:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/516756\/"},"modified":"2026-03-03T21:21:16","modified_gmt":"2026-03-03T21:21:16","slug":"bathurst-winners-mysterious-final-v8-supercar-test","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/516756\/","title":{"rendered":"Bathurst winner\u2019s mysterious final V8 Supercar test"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ALMOST two decades on from winning the Bathurst 1000 and some six years after his final championship start, David \u2018Skippy\u2019 Parsons turned his final laps in a V8 Supercar in a quiet test session.<\/p>\n<p>Or did he?<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a mystery that popped up during the research for <a href=\"https:\/\/superstore.v8sleuth.com.au\/collections\/books-and-magazines\/products\/v8-sleuth-magazine-issue-2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">V8 Sleuth Magazine Issue 2<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Our second issue is now available to buy in the V8 Sleuth Superstore or at newsagents around Australia.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/superstore.v8sleuth.com.au\/products\/v8-sleuth-magazine-issue-2?utm_source=SRBuyButton&amp;utm_medium=website\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/v8-sleuth-magazine-issue-2_1024x1024.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One of the feature stories focuses on the history of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-354-Garry-Rogers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Garry Rogers<\/a> Motorsport\u2019s infamous X-bar car, chassis GRM VY06.<\/p>\n<p>The unique car, which took the \u2018Larry\u2019 bar theory and doubled down, led a busy life with GRM from its debut in mid-2003 through to it being superseded by VE Commodores for 2007.<\/p>\n<p>Part of our research took us into GRM\u2019s internal records, which showed that VY06 was used during a team test day at Winton in late May 2006.<\/p>\n<p>Its regular pilot <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-12-Lee-Holdsworth\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lee Holdsworth<\/a> was listed as driving that day, but so too was \u2018Skippy\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>This wasn\u2019t reported in any of the dedicated motorsport media at the time, leading us to think it was a short, sharp blast of a few laps while Holdsworth was taking a break.<\/p>\n<p>However, we haven\u2019t been able to corroborate whether or not the 1987 Bathurst 1000 winner\u2019s track time actually happened.<\/p>\n<p>How it may have came about is also a mystery \u2013 albeit one we think we have a bead on.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/News_SkippyV8Utes2006-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-249526\"  \/>Parsons (back row, third from left) and Rogers (front row, right) both took part in the V8 Ute Legends Challenge a few weeks prior to the recorded test.
