The former voice of Big Brother Australia, Mike Goldman, has narrowly escaped a house fire in Brisbane’s inner-east with his wife and one-year-old son.<\/p>\n
Emergency services spent two hours working to contain the blaze in the two-storey property in Bulimba, owned by Goldman, after it broke out around 4am on Friday.<\/p>\n
Two other people also escaped the home.<\/p>\n
The former media personality said he woke to the sound of smoke alarms.<\/p>\n

“It was going off because there was a fire downstairs in the garage,” he said.<\/p>\n
“They don’t know what [the cause was] at the moment.”<\/p>\n
Goldman said he re-entered the home in an attempt to save the family dog.<\/p>\n
“People were screaming at me to get out, my hair is all burnt … the fire brigade arrived and came out with [the dog] 10 minutes later,” he said.<\/p>\n
“It was the longest 10 minutes of my life.”<\/p>\n
He said he felt lucky to have avoided a bigger fire, with a Tesla parked in the driveway capturing vision of the family fleeing.<\/p>\n
“It was like a reality TV show,” Goldman said.<\/p>\n
The narrow escape meant the family left many of their possessions inside, including mobile phones.<\/p>\n

Crews were able to control the fire before it spread to a neighbouring property. (ABC News: Molly Slattery)<\/p>\n
Goldman said they relied on neighbours to call emergency services.<\/p>\n
“Just get a smoke alarm, make sure you have smoke alarms in your house, it will save your life,” he said.<\/p>\n
“You just think it will never happen to you, it’s crazy.”<\/p>\n
