A disgraced high-profile dentist allegedly attacked two women while armed with a knife inside a Sydney apartment complex before being shot dead by police.<\/p>\n

Steven Lin died after being shot during a tense stand-off with police officers in Potts Point on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n

Police allege Dr Lin entered the building on St Neot Avenue armed with a knife before allegedly assaulting one woman in the laundry room and another inside her unit.<\/p>\n

Witness Rohan Bodman, who lives next door, said he heard a muffled women’s voice plea for “help” multiple times before officers yelled out “drop the knife”.<\/p>\n

Both women suffered serious injuries to their face and head and were taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a stable condition.<\/p>\n

Police said two officers arrived at the scene a short time later and were confronted by the 41-year-old when they deployed a taser, which was not effective.<\/p>\n

The dentist then allegedly threatened police while armed with the knife before he was shot once and later died at the scene.<\/p>\n

Police said Dr Lin did not know the two women who he allegedly attacked.<\/p>\n

Dr Lin, who has six children, was the founder and former CEO of Central Coast-based dentistry clinic Helix Group and authored several books.<\/p>\n

His family told the ABC he became a frequent user of methamphetamine after he split from his wife in 2024 before ceasing all affiliation with Helix Group the same year.<\/p>\n

Dr Lin had been facing several domestic violence-related charges, including assault occasioning bodily harm, breaching an apprehended violence order (AVO), stalking or intimidating intending fear and choking.<\/p>\n

Man shot dead by police after assaulting two women<\/a><\/p>\n

Police were called to a unit in inner Sydney after an armed man entered the building and assaulted two women.<\/p>\n

He was due to face court in March over two offences of breaching the conditions of an AVO.<\/p>\n

A critical incident investigation has been established to investigate the actions of the responding officers who shot and killed Dr Lin.<\/p>\n

NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Peter McKenna on Tuesday said his officers were confronted with a “very violent” situation and that those involved were traumatised by the incident.<\/p>\n
