Sydney’s 2GB radio station has secured a prominent media duo for its NRL coverage in a major move from the new owner.

Former NRL player and ex-KIIS FM star Cooper Johns will join 2GB’s ‘Continuous Call Team’ in a regular slot, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Andrew Webster, who recently departed from NRL 360 and podcast Off the Record after his co-host Phil ‘Buzz’ Rothfield’s retirement, is also taking up a new role.

Aussie rugby league icon and caller Darryl Brohman would be returning to the station as well after stepping back following his cancer diagnosis.

Johns, 26, quit KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O Show in January after joining as a full-time sports reporter in 2024 and quickly becoming a popular addition to the hosting team.

The youngest son of NRL legend Matty Johns told listeners “I feel like it’s time for the caterpillar to … grow its wings,” as he announced his departure.

Johns’ first appearance with the Continuous Call Team is slated for Sunday.

He will join personalities such as Paul Gallen, Mark ‘Piggy’ Riddell, Josh Morris and Mark Levy among others on the show – which celebrated its 40th anniversary this year.

Johns is expected to continue producing the ‘Backstage’ podcast and ‘The Johns Family Podcast’ with his father, as well as continuing work with his social media brand and Sportsbet.

Webster will join James Willis, Mark Geyer and Josh Morris on the show’s Monday-Wednesday offering ‘The Offload’.

It comes after pub tycoon Arthur Laundy acquired Nine’s national radio network, including 2GB, earlier this year in a $56 million purchase.

Nine radio boss Tom Malone at the time said the Laundy family was “a standout” during the sale process, in an all staff email addressing the deal.

He also called the move “great news for radio” and pointed to the Laundy family’s ambitions for long-term investment.

Johns’ move follows a major falling out between his former KIIS co-hosts, with Henderson vanishing from the airwaves after an explosive row with Sandilands last month.

On Tuesday, it was announced that Henderson could not “continue to work” with Sandilands following their on-air spat, ending a more than two-decade partnership.
