Anthony Joshua is undergoing intensive treatment on his ribs as the two-time world heavyweight champion continues physical therapy months after the horror car crash that claimed the lives of two of his closest friends in Nigeria, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.\n<\/p>\n
Joshua, 36, was involved in a fatal crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on December 29 \u2014 just 10 days after knocking out Jake Paul in six rounds in Miami.\n<\/p>\n
The crash claimed the lives of his personal trainer, Kevin \u201cLatz\u201d Ayodele, and long-time recovery therapist Sina Ghami. Joshua sustained minor injuries and was discharged from the hospital two days later before being flown back to the United Kingdom to attend the funerals of his fallen \u201cbrothers.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
The former champion shared snapshots of the painful-looking rib work on Snapchat, captioning the post, \u201cRehabilitation protocol. When you go thru (through) certain things, you realise that you are stronger than you think you are.\u201d<\/p>\n
With his recovery ongoing, the case against his driver, Adeniyi Kayode, has been adjourned to March 13 at a magistrate\u2019s court in Sagamu, Ogun State. <\/p>\n
Joshua had been scheduled to fight in March before the crash threw his boxing future into doubt. However, promoter Eddie Hearn remains confident the champion will return to honour the memory of his late friends.\n<\/p>\n
\u201cOriginally, the plan with AJ was for him to fight in March and then fight Tyson Fury in August. That\u2019s not happening,\u201d Hearn told Boxing Scene in February.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s going to come back, I believe, late summer, but physically he\u2019s not yet in a position to return to camp. I\u2019m looking at options to get him back in the ring in July.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Fury, 37, who expressed sympathy for Joshua following the tragedy, has ruled out a fight with his British rival for now.\n<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not interested in going toe-to-toe with somebody who\u2019s in a bad place at the moment. I\u2019ve been in a bad place many, many times. I wish them boys all the best,\u201d the WBC champion said.
