Wildlight Entertainment announced on their social channels today that Highguard will be permanently shutting down on March 12 2026, only a month and a half after releasing back on January 26.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s no secret that the free-to-play multiplayer had a rough start to its journey \u2013 with many speculations as to whether it was due to a not-so-well executed reveal, all-too similar game mechanics players are tired of, or a particular game industry personality overhyping it \u2013 Highguard was met with many gamers having already made up their minds on it being a game they\u2019ll miss. Nonetheless, for those that did dive into the Highguard, most thoroughly enjoyed it\u2019s gameplay and competitive shooter feel, urging others to actually play the game and give it chance. However, like we\u2019ve seen recently in other team based shooters like Concord, Highguard just couldn\u2019t push past its rocky launch into the gaming space.<\/p>\n
Wildlight Entertainment noted in their statement that, \u201cDespite the passion and hard work of our team, we have not been able to build a sustainable player base to support the game long term.\u201d and go on to the team will be releasing one final update for players to enjoy until it\u2019s end of life. \u201cToday we\u2019re sharing difficult news. We have made the decision to permanently shut down Highguard on March 12.<\/p>\n
Since launch, more than 2 million players stepped into Highguard\u2019s world. You shared feedback, created content, and many believed in what we were building. For that, we are deeply grateful.Despite the passion and hard work of our team, we have not been able to build a sustainable player base to support the game long term. Servers will remain online until March 12th.<\/p>\n
We hope you\u2019ll jump in with us one more time to show your support and get those final great matches in while we still can.The team is excited to release one final game update to enjoy in the remaining life of the game. We\u2019ll be adding a new Warden, a new weapon, account level progression, and skill trees! Full patch notes are coming, and we\u2019re targeting tonight or tomorrow morning for patch release.<\/p>\n
