Rachal Lange revealed her four-year-old daughter was attending a childcare centre when she was given a \u2018best friend\u2019 necklace from another child.<\/p>\n
Ms Lange briefly saw the necklace at her home but was unsure where it had come from.<\/p>\n
After the daycare notified parents that the necklace was missing, Ms Lange realised it had come from the daycare and asked her daughter for the jewellery piece so she could return it to the other little girl.<\/p>\n
However, when her daughter revealed she had put it in the bin, Ms Lange immediately called the other mum to say she\u2019d give her the money to replace it.<\/p>\n
Ms Lange initially thought it was \u201cjust a cheapy\u201d and was happy to pay $20 as a \u201cgesture of goodwill\u201d.<\/p>\n
But it turned out the necklace was not cheap, it was a Prouds necklace, and cost $80.<\/p>\n
After sitting on it overnight, Ms Lange took to social media to ask for advice, and the overwhelming response was \u201cdo not replace it,\u201d which Ms Lange said shifted her mindset.<\/p>\n
\u201cI wrote a really kind, respectful, but also very direct message to the mum and I just said, \u2018maybe this is a learning curve, like, we shouldn\u2019t be taking (valuable) things to daycare anyway,\u201d Ms Lange said.<\/p>\n
Despite Ms Lange attempting to stay amicable, the other mum \u201cwas not happy\u201d and claimed Ms Lange\u2019s daughter had stolen it from the little girl\u2019s neck.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe basically said, \u2018this matter will be taken to the police\u2019, and I said you go for it\u2019,\u201d Ms Lange told her social media followers.<\/p>\n
\u201cThen I said to her, \u2018please don\u2019t contact me again\u2019, and I haven\u2019t heard from her since.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Lange says the necklace shouldn\u2019t have been brought to daycare in the first place.<\/p>\n
\u201cI say to my daughter, if you want to take something to daycare, and I\u2019ve said no multiple times, and you still want to take it, absolutely go for it\u2019,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf it doesn\u2019t come home, it gets broken, lost, stolen, eaten, misplaced, then that\u2019s your own fault.\u201d<\/p>\n
The \u201claughable\u201d interaction ignited fierce debate online about who is responsible for replacing the necklace.<\/p>\n
\u201cYour child threw away something she knew wasn\u2019t hers. You replace it, period,\u201d one comment said.<\/p>\n
Others disagreed, and took Ms Lange\u2019s side.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf it gets lost at daycare, they wouldn\u2019t be paying for it. It\u2019s completely on her for letting her child take it to preschool,\u201d a comment said.<\/p>\n
Another said: \u201cI\u2019d give them $100 with a note saying if they\u2019re ever on hard times you\u2019re happy to help them out with groceries or meals, they seem like the type of people who will be offended by that lol.\u201d<\/p>\n
It\u2019s been a \u201cbizarre\u201d experience for Ms Lange, who says she hasn\u2019t experienced anything like this in the almost five years her daughter has been at day care.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m chill, it\u2019s not like it really bothered me. . .
