{"id":52274,"date":"2025-08-08T06:44:12","date_gmt":"2025-08-08T06:44:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/52274\/"},"modified":"2025-08-08T06:44:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-08T06:44:12","slug":"walkinshaw-andretti-united-to-end-holden-commodore-super2-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/52274\/","title":{"rendered":"Walkinshaw Andretti United to end Holden Commodore Super2 program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WALKINSHAW Andretti United will not return to the Dunlop Super2 Series in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>After a decade between drinks, the Clayton powerhouse rejoined the Supercars feeder series at the start of 2023 in a move that led to plenty of success with its Holden ZB Commodores.<\/p>\n<p>Crucially, it unearthed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-2748-Ryan-Wood\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ryan Wood<\/a>, who has blossomed into a main game race winner, before claiming last year\u2019s title with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-2747-Zach-Bates\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Zach Bates<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The team even opted to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/brand-new-walkinshaw-commodore-supercar-for-2025\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">build a brand-new Gen2 chassis for this season<\/a>, but results have been tough to come by thus far in 2025 for young guns <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-2798-Campbell-Logan\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Campbell Logan<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-2864-Matt-Hillyer\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Matt Hillyer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>V8 Sleuth has learnt WAU\u2019s Super2 program will end after three seasons, something which the team has now confirmed as it goes all-in for its new Supra-centric era.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith our move to Toyota in 2026, we\u2019ve made the decision to step away from the Dunlop Super2 series next year, sharpening our focus on homologation duties and our main game program,\u201d WAU chief Bruce Stewart told V8 Sleuth.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/superstore.v8sleuth.com.au\/products\/2025-repco-bathurst-1000-official-program?utm_source=SRBuyButton&amp;utm_medium=website\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/2025-repco-bathurst-1000-program_1024x1024.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, we are planning on increasing our Toyota 86 GR Cup presence through the WAU Foundation Academy, which is extremely important to us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt helps us not only develop drivers in an incredible series, but is an essential program for staff development too.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will reevaluate re-entering Super2 when the Gen3 GR Supra enters the series.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Season 2027 has been earmarked as the potential timeframe for Gen3 machinery to become Super2-eligible, although V8 Sleuth understands there is a push to delay that until 2028 in order to extend the lifespan of the Gen2 cars currently in use.<\/p>\n<p>Logan and Hillyer are 13th and 18th respectively in the Super2 points heading into Round 4 this weekend at Queensland Raceway.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"WALKINSHAW Andretti United will not return to the Dunlop Super2 Series in 2026.
