{"id":523388,"date":"2026-03-06T22:33:10","date_gmt":"2026-03-06T22:33:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/523388\/"},"modified":"2026-03-06T22:33:10","modified_gmt":"2026-03-06T22:33:10","slug":"chinas-largest-provincial-economy-vows-to-reshape-industry-with-ai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/523388\/","title":{"rendered":"China&#8217;s largest provincial economy vows to reshape industry with AI"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">BEIJING, March 6 (Reuters) &#8211; Officials and executives in Guangdong, China&#8217;s southern manufacturing and tech hub, on Friday vowed to expand <a href=\"https:\/\/tech.yahoo.com\/ai\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:artificial intelligence;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">artificial intelligence<\/a> across its $2 trillion \u200ceconomy, a day after Beijing launched an &#8220;AI plus&#8221; strategy to embed the \u200ctechnology throughout the economy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">They made the comments at an event discussing a new government work report and five-year \u200bpolicy blueprint that, for the first time, puts AI-driven industrial upgrading at the centre of economic growth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">As a critical link in global supply chains, producing <a href=\"https:\/\/tech.yahoo.com\/phones\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:smartphones;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">smartphones<\/a>, appliances and electric vehicles, Guangdong&#8217;s ability to deploy AI will also shape how far the European Union and United \u200cStates can de\u2011risk their supply \u2060chains from China amid rising geopolitical tension.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">\u2022 Guangdong is China&#8217;s largest provincial economy, ranking first nationwide for more than three decades<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">\u2022 The \u2060province recorded GDP of about 14.6 trillion yuan ($2.1 trillion) in 2025, making it a larger economy than countries like Australia<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">\u2022 Guangdong governor Meng Fanli said the province would deepen &#8220;AI plus&#8221; applications \u200bacross sectors \u200band push the large-scale commercialisation of AI<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">\u2022 \u200bGuangdong&#8217;s Communist Party secretary Huang Kunming \u200csaid the province would speed up construction of new infrastructure, including large-scale computing clusters<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">\u2022 Qin Weizhong, mayor of China&#8217;s premier tech hub Shenzhen, said value added in sectors like AI, robotics, and semiconductors posted double-digit growth last year<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">\u2022 Strategic emerging industries accounted for 43% of Shenzhen&#8217;s GDP, Qin said.
