(ABC News: Stephen Opie)<\/p>\n<p>Islamic values &#8216;incompatible&#8217; with Australian values, Bernardi says<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Senator Hanson&#8217;s comments on Sky News last month were rejected by politicians across the political spectrum, including Nationals senator Matt Canavan, who labelled them &#8220;divisive, inflammatory [and] un-Australian&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2026-03-02\/coalition-votes-against-hanson-censure-motion\/106405622\" data-component=\"FullBleedLink\" class=\"RelatedCard_link__rsgR9 FullBleedLink_root__lTw_U interactive_focusContext__yRhc_ interactive_defaults__AKxUU FullBleedLink_showVisited__g3Xvz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hanson censured over no &#8216;good&#8217; that sought to vilify Muslim Australians.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">They were also condemned as hateful by Islamic groups, including the Australian National Imams Council, which described the comments as &#8220;divisive&#8221; and &#8220;ill-informed&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Senator Hanson later told the ABC that she did not believe there were no &#8220;good&#8221; Muslims and apologised if she &#8220;offended anyone out there that doesn&#8217;t believe in sharia law, or multiple marriages, or wants to bring ISIS brides in, or people from Gaza that believe in a caliphate&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;But, in general, that&#8217;s what they [Muslims] want \u2014 a world caliphate,&#8221; she claimed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Mr Bernardi said he &#8220;100 per cent&#8221; agreed with Senator Hanson&#8217;s &#8220;sentiment&#8221; and later clarified that he did not believe there were no &#8220;good&#8221; Muslims.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;If you want to say someone is a good Muslim, then their values are incompatible with Australian values,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;If you say that someone happens to be of the Muslim faith and heritage and they obey our laws and things, under Islam they are not good Muslims.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;It&#8217;s about how you define it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">According to the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils, Muslims in Australia are required to adhere to Australian law.<\/p>\n<p>One Nation &#8216;entrenched in Australian vernacular&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">One Nation is running candidates in all 47 lower house seats at the SA election on March 21.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">A Newspoll published in The Australian found 24 per cent of voters surveyed intended to vote for the minor party, ahead of the Liberal Party on 14 per cent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Meanwhile, a YouGov poll published in The Advertiser also puts One Nation in second place, with 22 per cent primary support.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/elections\/sa\/2026\/guide\/electorates\" data-component=\"FullBleedLink\" class=\"RelatedCard_link__rsgR9 FullBleedLink_root__lTw_U interactive_focusContext__yRhc_ interactive_defaults__AKxUU FullBleedLink_showVisited__g3Xvz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2026 South Australia electorate guide <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Mr Bernardi said One Nation had become &#8220;entrenched in the Australian vernacular&#8221; and was challenging what he branded the &#8220;uni-party&#8221; comprised of Labor and the Liberals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">He said One Nation education policies included &#8220;empowering&#8221; parents to participate on school boards, school voucher systems, and removing the &#8220;black armband view of history that&#8217;s being taught in schools&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Mr Bernardi also said the party wanted to &#8220;end&#8221; hospital ramping, give patients needing minor surgeries access to day clinics, increase mental health and aged care services, and boost the number of regional doctors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;What we realise is that many baubles get dangled around election time and many of them are unfulfilled,&#8221;
