{"id":523936,"date":"2026-03-07T04:26:12","date_gmt":"2026-03-07T04:26:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/523936\/"},"modified":"2026-03-07T04:26:12","modified_gmt":"2026-03-07T04:26:12","slug":"australian-projects-shortlisted-in-riba-international-awards-for-excellence-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/523936\/","title":{"rendered":"Australian projects shortlisted in RIBA International Awards for Excellence 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Five Australian projects were shortlisted in the Royal Institute of British Architects\u2019 (RIBA) International Awards for Excellence 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Fifty-two projects from 18 countries were shortlisted for the awards program, which recognises designs that address global challenges, including climate change, social equity and urban growth. <\/p>\n<p>Awards group chair Neil Gillespie said the program highlights diverse and creative design solutions to global challenges. \u201cThese projects show how architects can respond to complex social, cultural and environmental challenges, from revitalising communities and preserving heritage to pioneering sustainable and technologically innovative solutions. They demonstrate the power of architecture to connect people, strengthen identity, and create inclusive, resilient places for future generations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Angelo Candalepas and Associates\u2019 projects featured twice in the shortlist. <a href=\"https:\/\/architectureau.com\/articles\/042-048_aa2205_project_church_of_the_living_god_candalepas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Church of the Living God<\/a>, a mixed-use building in Sydney comprising a hall for services, community activity spaces and crisis accommodation, was shortlisted in the Community category, while <a href=\"https:\/\/architectureau.com\/articles\/the-porter-house-hotel-and-the-castle-residences\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The Porter House Hotel<\/a>, a restored heritage hotel with a cantilevered residential tower above, appeared on the Mixed-Use shortlist. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Burnt Earth House by Wardle.\" class=\"['full'] full blur-up lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/e28f3ba01b9363db315be06caaeb3366.jpg\" height=\"579\" width=\"728\"\/><\/p>\n<p>View gallery<\/p>\n<p>In the House category, <a href=\"https:\/\/architectureau.com\/articles\/burnt-earth-beach-house-by-wardle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Burnt Earth House<\/a> by Wardle was shortlisted. The multigenerational Anglesea beach house is built almost entirely from terracotta, using fire-resistant bricks. Also shortlisted in the House category is <a href=\"https:\/\/architectureau.com\/articles\/Gold-Creek-by-Steendijk-and-Glenn-Murcutt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Gold Creek<\/a> by Steendijk and Glenn Murcutt, a modest 100-square-metre pavilion house in Brisbane that is tucked into its hillside site. The home features screened openings for natural ventilation and ember-resistant Corten roofs. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/architectureau.com\/articles\/darlington-public-school-by-fjc-studio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Darlington Public School<\/a> by FJC Studio, a Sydney primary school in Sydney with flexible learning spaces, was shortlisted in the Education category.
