The Evo2 model was trained on 9 trillion DNA letters much as other AIs train on internet text, and when given a chunk of a microbe\u2019s genome, was able to create a plausible-looking version of the rest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The researchers did not synthesize the resulting microbe, and it likely would not have lived if they had \u2014 DNA is less forgiving of errors than English text \u2014 but they did demonstrate significant control: In a separate experiment, Evo2 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41586-026-10176-5\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:wrote DNA sequences that encoded Morse code messages;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">wrote DNA sequences that encoded Morse code messages<\/a> in the shape of the chromosomes.
