{"id":528298,"date":"2026-03-09T06:47:11","date_gmt":"2026-03-09T06:47:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/528298\/"},"modified":"2026-03-09T06:47:11","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T06:47:11","slug":"why-chinas-critical-mineral-dominance-is-still-disrupting-us-supply-chains","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/528298\/","title":{"rendered":"Why China\u2019s critical mineral dominance is still disrupting US supply chains"},"content":{"rendered":"<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">American companies are grappling with a shortage of critical minerals used in daily operations despite China easing some of its export controls, according to industry insiders.<\/p>\n<p>After Beijing and Washington agreed to a so-called trade truce last November, the Ministry of Commerce issued a notice <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/economy\/china-economy\/article\/3344151\/chinas-gallium-grip-looms-over-trumps-beijing-visit-critical-deadline-nears?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">suspending a ban<\/a> on shipments of gallium, germanium and antimony to the US for one year.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">But China\u2019s dominant position in the global market for these vital raw materials, including heavy rare earths, continued to weigh on US companies, industry insiders said.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cThere is no immediate broad-based solution except supply loosening in China,\u201d said David Abraham, director of Three Legged Capital in New York, a specialist advisory firm focused on critical mineral supply chains.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cIt\u2019s not just that materials are dear; it\u2019s that they are not getting to manufacturers,\u201d he added, noting the current situation was creating \u201csevere challenges\u201d for the defence and tech industries.<\/p>\n<p>Jesse Marks, CEO and executive director of Rihla Research &amp;
