If the Roosters lose again on the weekend, you watch, everybody will go, the Roosters sign DCE and what’s happening? That’s what happens when you play at the big clubs.

“He should be back in rugby league” | 04:07

“When I played there over 20 years ago, if you didn’t win a grand final, I remember going in there, Willie Carne, Alan Cann, Michael Hancock, Kerrod Walters they all got shown the door. Australian players, got shown the door. That’s what always happened.”

Read believes Maguire is a victim of his own intense reputation, so when things go bad at a club, the blowtorch will always be on him and his coaching style.

“I know Madge won a comp, but unfortunately for Madge, to an extent, wherever he goes, there’s scrutiny because of his reputation, his history. He won a comp at Souths, things fell apart. He went to the Wests Tigers things fell apart.

“Now he is at Brisbane, they win a comp, and it feels like there’s a chance stuff may fall apart again, so I think that’s why there’s so much attention on him.

“Madge dealt with it pretty well last year, but it’s not going to go away because it’s Brisbane and they are a massive club in a massive market.”

Broncos plan tough reception for Pezet | 01:49

The rumours for Payne Haas’ reasons for leaving the Broncos for the Rabbitohs won’t go away, but at the core of them is a desire to play under Wayne Bennett over Michael Maguire.

Read believes that is a fact that the Broncos can’t ignore.

“I don’t think it’s one thing that’s driven Haas to come to Sydney, it’s a group of things,” Read said.

“And some of it’s the coach. He wants to play under Wayne. And he obviously prefers Wayne to Madge.”

However, Read believes the noise around Maguire will go away if he can get his team to go on a winning run like he did in 2025.

“You just have got to win, it’s pretty simple,” Read said.

“You have just got to win and it will all go away.”

The pressure that the premiers the Broncos are under is quite unprecedented, but the blowtorch on Michael Maguire…

[568
262790,64,63,689,46386,4428,257374,262793,146847,4430,28814,262631,59145,30193,97726,21758,102259,262791,4746,246363,6407,761,762,673,94025,158,677,4585,13390,52768,13391,159,85,670,11737,1651,4515,262792
0":"post-528720","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-nrl","8":"tag-alan-cann","9":"tag-au","10":"tag-australia","11":"tag-australia-and-new-zealand","12":"tag-australian-players","13":"tag-brisbane-broncos","14":"tag-broncos-media-day","15":"tag-broncos-plan","16":"tag-coaching-style","17":"tag-daly-cherry-evans","18":"tag-dean-ritchie","19":"tag-faces-headache","20":"tag-footy-games","21":"tag-gorden-tallis","22":"tag-horror-show","23":"tag-ideal-start","24":"tag-kerrod-walters","25":"tag-madge","26":"tag-mark-st-john","27":"tag-michael-hancock","28":"tag-michael-maguire","29":"tag-national-rugby-league","30":"tag-nationalrugbyleague","31":"tag-new-south-wales","32":"tag-nigel-hallett","33":"tag-nrl","34":"tag-oceania","35":"tag-panel-debate","36":"tag-payne-haas","37":"tag-premiership-defence","38":"tag-reece-walsh","39":"tag-rugby-league","40":"tag-sports","41":"tag-sydney","42":"tag-team-tips","43":"tag-wayne-bennett","44":"tag-wests-tigers","45":"tag-willie-carne
["GET
