Just one day after being an outspoken critic of the new 2026 F1 cars, Max Verstappen has announced he will race in the 2026 N\u00fcrburgring 24 Hours.<\/p>\n

Verstappen\u2019s GT team will take on the iconic race in May alongside experienced enduro steerers Dani Juncadella, Jules Gounon and Lucas Auer.<\/p>\n

They drive a Red Bull-backed Mercedes with the Dutchman\u2019s #3, which he also uses in F1.<\/p>\n

In addition to the N\u00fcrburgring 24 Hours, they will also compete in the NLS1, NLS2, and the 24h N\u00fcrburgring Qualifiers.<\/p>\n

Verstappen has made no secret of his growing passion for GT racing, especially at the 20.8km, 154-turn, Nordschleife.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe N\u00fcrburgring is a special place. There\u2019s no other track like it,\u201d Verstappen said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe 24h N\u00fcrburgring is a race that\u2019s been on my bucket list for a long time, so I\u2019m really thrilled we can make it happen now.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cLast year, I was able to get my DMSB Permit Nordschleife and participate in NLS9, that we won.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThat preparation is very valuable, as we have learned a lot that we can take into our program this year with NLS2 and the 24-hour race.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve got a strong line-up with Dani, Jules and Lucas and great support from Red Bull and Mercedes-AMG Motorsport.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cNow it\u2019s about putting in the right preparations before the events, so we can maximise everything in the races.\u201d<\/p>\n

The news is timely considering Verstappen was one of the biggest critics of the new 2026 F1 cars after scoring a fighting sixth in the Australian Grand Prix after a qualifying crash.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love racing, but you can only take so much, right?\u201d the Dutchman said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the FIA and Formula 1 are willing to listen, but I just hope that there is some action.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not that I\u2019m the only one saying it. I think a lot of people are speaking about the same thing.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not that we are critical just to be critical. We are critical for a reason. We want it to be Formula 1, proper Formula 1 on steroids.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd today, again, that was not the case.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Red Bull driver concluded that \u201cwhat we need is not little tweaks, for sure\u201d, while later making it clear he hopes changes can still be made during the season.<\/p>\n
