He’s also connected with some like-minded individuals: Lowell (Neil Patrick Harris), Mia (Krysten Ritter), Gareth (David Dastmalchian), and Al (Eric Stonestreet), brought together by Leon Prater (Peter Dinklage), a mysterious billionaire with a penchant for serial killers.

Although Prater has a rule against his guests offing one another, Dexter can’t help himself. Off the bat, he takes down Lowell in Episode 4, a tattoo collector ready to pounce on a new victim. Next is Mia, a stunning sommelier who seems to follow a killer code, similar to Dexter, but is later revealed to be a Black Widow in disguise. She kills because she loves the thrill of the hunt, which drags her victims back to her house, where she ends them for sport.

Mia tempts Dexter with a ménage à trois, but not the kind with a happy ending. She is hoping her attractive counterpart might join her for a little dining, dancing, and death. Yes, she wanted them to collaborate on a murder. Dexter was tempted, but was turned off by her killer confession. Instead, he spies on her from a safe distance while she brings her next victim home. When the attack begins, he places an anonymous call to the police, who rush in and arrest Mia and save a terrified man before his life flashed before his eyes.

She is taken to jail, where she is visited by Charley (Uma Thurman), Prater’s head of security, who promises Mia that she won’t be there long. Little did Mia know just how short her stay would be. In Episode 6, Mia is killed while in her cell. Leaving one less hungry killer for Prater to invite to his next dinner party. Whether or not Prater or Charley had anything to do with it is as yet unknown.

It’s important to note: Dexter did not kill Mia. But, it appears he might’ve also killed Gareth, aka, Gemini Killer. We will have to stay tuned for next week’s episode to see what really went down.

Our time with Mia, also known as Lady Vengeance, was short, but Ritter had a blast guest-starring on the show and collaborating with Hall. Fans worried that the show would not be great, but everyone has happily been surprised.

KRYSTEN RITTER: I mean, it’s so good! I can’t believe they were able to do all of this and keep the show going. It’s a legacy TV show. And it just goes to show, when you have the right writing and the right actors, it’s magic, and people want more and more. Another thing that appealed to me was that all of my scenes were opposite Michael. And getting to work with an actor like that, oh, my God, what a masterclass.

DEADLINE: What is he like around the set? Does he stay in character?

KR: When he was with me, we were very much on the same level. We were very like, connected, and playful with one another. But there were definitely some moments where I was like, “Wait, he’s so natural.” You know? I was like, “Is he in character right now? Is this Dexter or Michael C. Hall?” Sometimes you don’t know, because he’s so natural. If you caught him rehearsing one of his lines, he would keep people wondering if he was talking to them. [Laughs] Watching him work, and watching what he would do and why, then when it got to his closeup, he would sink in even deeper. I had a front row seat to his process, and it was awesome.

DEADLINE: Mia and Dexter are comfortable with one another when they first meet. Was that due to the words on the page, or the chemistry and trust built between two actors on set?

KR: That was so exciting because it doesn’t always happen. Before Dexter, Michael and I hadn’t met before. Our first day was during the Central Park running scene, and it was very cold. I had a big dialogue scene, and I was prepared. I showed up and said, “I’m here. Let’s have some fun!” We just hit it off immediately and really connected. We had a natural rapport. But you never know, that’s just catching a little magic. We were lucky that we worked together so well, and I was really excited to work with someone like him.

DEADLINE: Fans will surely be sad that there won’t be a future for Mia and Dexter, because for a hot minute, we were really shipping them.

KR: Shooting Episode 5 was exciting because of that turn. When I’m sitting down to read all the scripts, it’s an exciting character twist and another color to play. And I just loved how deranged and psychotic she turns out to be. She starts off very cool and deliberate, and then when she and Dexter warm up, it’s kind of very sexy and electric. But it turns out that she’s a bad guy, and that’s not gonna go well.

DEADLINE: There are so many good storylines yet to play out. Did you take a peek at any of the scripts for the forthcoming episodes?

KR: To be honest with you, I didn’t want to read the last two episodes. As a fan of the show, I want to be able to watch it. I mean, I know what happens because you’re on set and you hear whispers. Now that I’m done, I have an opportunity to watch every Friday when new episodes come out, just like you guys do. I’ve been doing that every week now.

And, you know what? At this point in my career, I don’t always watch everything that I’m in. I mostly do the work, keep my head down, and move on. But for this, I was salivating to watch this. I loved playing this character so much.
