{"id":534934,"date":"2026-03-12T06:10:17","date_gmt":"2026-03-12T06:10:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/534934\/"},"modified":"2026-03-12T06:10:17","modified_gmt":"2026-03-12T06:10:17","slug":"brad-keselowski-compares-shane-van-gisbergen-to-happy-gilmore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/534934\/","title":{"rendered":"Brad Keselowski compares Shane van Gisbergen to Happy Gilmore"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NASCAR veteran Brad Keselowski has offered an amusing take on the rise of Shane van Gisbergen in the US.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the Dale Jr Download podcast, Keselowski compared SVG to Happy Gilmore \u2013 the Adam Sandler movie character who was a makeshift golfer that could outdo any rival for power but was brought unstuck by a lack of short-game finesse.<\/p>\n<p>To spell out the obvious, the van Gisbergen version refers to his supremacy on road\/street courses but initial shortcoming on ovals.<\/p>\n<p>Only now, the former Supercars star is making serious inroads on ovals\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve got a lot of thoughts on SVG,\u201d Keselowski began.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had no idea who this guy was.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI did the track walk at Chicago, I\u2019ll never forget this: I\u2019m walking and I\u2019m like \u2018I don\u2019t know who this guy is, he\u2019s either a fan or a PR guy\u2019. The next day, he gets in one of the cars and it\u2019s like \u2018oh, a ringer\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/superstore.v8sleuth.com.au\/products\/1-12-scale-2022-adelaide-500-1-holden-commodore-zb-van-gisbergen-model-1?utm_source=SRBuyButton&amp;utm_medium=website\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/b12h22h-1_6e84f48f-1741-45dc-a75e-ad9114b57813_1024x1024.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, Justin Marks in the summer of \u201924 has to make a decision of what to do with SVG. Now keep in mind at that time he has (Daniel) Su\u00e1rez, (Ross) Chastain, Zane Smith; \u2018I\u2019ve got to cut one of these three\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was surprised when they cut Zane for Shane. And I\u2019m going to go ahead and just say it right here, I was wrong.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I thought putting Shane in was like \u2018alright, so you\u2019re going to win some road courses, this is a team ownership hack to get a car locked in the playoffs. You\u2019re now guaranteed top 16 points, your charter value goes up, your company value goes up\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt almost felt like SVG was a prop for the company.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow he\u2019s becoming the face of Trackhouse.
