The disgraced radio presenter, 54, made an appearance on A Current Affair (ACA) on Wednesday, where he admitted he has \u201cno regrets\u201d about his controversial remarks and blamed them on an on-air \u201ccharacter\u201d he was playing.<\/p>\n

Sheargold was fired in February 2025<\/a> for comparing the Australian women\u2019s soccer team, the Matildas, to \u201cYear 10 girls\u201d and claiming he would rather “hammer a nail” through his genitals than watch them play.<\/p>\n

Then, the host stirred more controversy after he claimed endometriosis is a \u201cmade up\u201d condition<\/a> in a bizarre on-air outburst.<\/p>\n

\u201cI accept that some people were genuinely offended by what I thought was a joke,\u201d Sheargold told ACA\u2019s Steve Marshall.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ve got to be careful when you\u2019re taking pot shots at women\u2019s sport, particularly. Because I want young kids to dream and aspire to be part of those kind of things.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just don\u2019t wanna pay for a ticket and go and watch it myself, Steve,\u201d he added sarcastically.<\/p>\n

Defending his comments, Sheargold insisted his radio \u201ccharacter\u201d was very different to the person he is in real life, and that he is “not misogynistic or sexist”.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I was in the radio, I was playing the character of Marty Sheargold,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople just think you are who you are when you turn up to work, and clearly, I\u2019m not sitting at home telling my two daughters that endometriosis isn\u2019t real.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not a misogynist, and I\u2019m not sexist, and I\u2019m not whatever the other sort of, you know, commentary that was levelled at me.\u201d<\/p>\n

When pressed on whether he felt remorse for what he said, the broadcaster doubled down on his comments, but conceded he regretted the impact the scandal had on those around him.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe comment itself? No. The fallout from it? Yeah, but not for only me, but for the team that I was working in, for their reputations, you know, for the company. And for my kids,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I had any regrets, it would be the exit from the business, and also personally, the effect it had on the kids, for them to have their dad be cancelled, as it were.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s not a real badge of honour when you\u2019re wandering around the playground, I wouldn\u2019t have thought.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last year, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) ruled that Sheargold\u2019s \u201cdegrading and demeaning\u201d remarks breached decency standards.<\/p>\n

The regulator also rapped Triple M outlets in Sydney, Brisbane, Maryborough and the Gold Coast for broadcasting the \u201cderogatory\u201d rant, stating: \u201cSexist comments like this don\u2019t belong in Australian broadcasting.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sheargold is now attempting to resurrect his career with his new stand-up shows, The Red Card Tour.<\/a><\/p>\n
