{"id":538166,"date":"2026-03-13T17:00:10","date_gmt":"2026-03-13T17:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/538166\/"},"modified":"2026-03-13T17:00:10","modified_gmt":"2026-03-13T17:00:10","slug":"reds-reliever-caleb-ferguson-dealing-with-mild-oblique-strain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/538166\/","title":{"rendered":"Reds reliever Caleb Ferguson dealing with mild oblique strain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>GOODYEAR, Ariz. &#8212; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/cin\/cincinnati-reds\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cincinnati Reds<\/a> reliever <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/41017\/caleb-ferguson\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Caleb Ferguson<\/a> is dealing with an oblique strain and isn&#8217;t expected to be available for the start of the season.<\/p>\n<p>Reds manager Terry Francona told reporters that Ferguson has a mild right oblique strain.<\/p>\n<p>The Reds signed Ferguson to a one-year, $4.5 million contract in December.<\/p>\n<p>Ferguson, 29, made a career-high 70 appearances last season with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/pit\/pittsburgh-pirates\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pittsburgh Pirates<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/sea\/seattle-mariners\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Seattle Mariners<\/a>. He went a combined 5-4 with a 3.58 ERA with 51 strikeouts over 65 1\/3 innings.<\/p>\n<p>He made three postseason appearances with Seattle and allowed five runs over 2 2\/3 innings.<\/p>\n<p>Ferguson owns a combined 24-17 record with a 3.66 ERA and six saves in a career that has included stops with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/lad\/los-angeles-dodgers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a> (2018-23), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/nyy\/new-york-yankees\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York Yankees<\/a> (2024), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/hou\/houston-astros\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Houston Astros<\/a> (2024), Pirates and Mariners.<\/p>\n<p>The news regarding Ferguson comes as the Reds already are preparing to open the season without right-hander <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/39635\/hunter-greene\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hunter Greene<\/a>, who has an elbow injury that could cause him to miss up to four months.
