Jannik Sinner<\/a> has one goal at the BNP Paribas Open<\/a>: win the title and join an exclusive club as just the third man to capture all six ATP Masters 1000 hard-court events.<\/p>\n Hard courts have always brought out the best in the second-seeded Italian. He claimed his first tour-level trophy in Sofia (2020), his maiden Masters 1000 in Toronto (2023) and his first major at the Australian Open<\/a> (2024) on the surface. With trophies at the US Open<\/a> (2024) and the Nitto ATP Finals<\/a> (2024, \u201925), Indian Wells remains the only \u2018Big Title\u2019 on hard courts that eludes him.<\/p>\n Standing in his way in the semi-finals on Saturday is Alexander Zverev<\/a>, who has bulldozed through the draw with a newfound aggressive style. A seven-time Masters 1000 champion and former World No. 2, the 6\u20196\u201d German has long had the tools to dominate but often relied on a defensive approach.<\/p>\n This season, however, Zverev is embracing a bolder style, aiming to overpower opponents rather than outlast them. Zverev, who served for the match against Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> in the Australian Open<\/a> semi-finals, has struck 102 winners across his four Indian Wells matches, with only Alcaraz (113) hitting more out of the four semi-finalists. Sinner has notched 95 winners and Daniil Medvedev<\/a> 88.<\/p>\n The German referenced the change in his opening-round win in California against Matteo Berrettini<\/a>, citing that he \u2018feels different this year\u2019 and was pleased that he was the one \u2018being aggressive\u2019. The 28-year-old further echoed those comments after his fourth-round victory against Frances Tiafoe<\/a>.<\/p>\n “I felt I was dictating the rallies from the baseline and playing on my terms. I am really pleased with that. It is something I have been really open on and today it worked,\u201d Zverev said following that win.<\/p>\n Zverev’s change in tactic has helped result in a first semi-final appearance in Indian Wells. He has become just the fifth player to complete the set of last-four appearances at all nine ATP Masters 1000 events since the series began in 1990, joining former No. 1s Rafael Nadal<\/a>, Novak Djokovic<\/a>, Roger Federer<\/a> and Andy Murray<\/a>.<\/p>\n You May Also Like: Zverev joins Nadal, Djokovic, Federer & Murray in record books<\/a><\/p>\n However, if he wants to reach a first final in \u2018Tennis Paradise\u2019, he will have to find a way past five-time Masters 1000 champ Sinner, who is trying to join Federer and Djokovic as just the third man to win all six hard-court Masters 1000 crowns<\/a>. The Italian leads the German 6-4 in the pair\u2019s Lexus ATP Head2Head series and has won the pair\u2019s past five meetings.<\/p>\n \u201c[It will be] a tough match,\u201d Sinner said, looking ahead to meeting Zverev. \u201cWe know each other very well, so I will try to be as consistent as possible. At the same time, he will have changed a couple of things.<\/p>\n \u201cSo I have to be very careful. I watched a couple of his matches. He’s playing great tennis\u2026 I’m looking forward to this. These are the matches I practise for.
