A former Perth Triple M employee has revealed he was just metres away from a missile interception while sitting at a pub in Dubai.<\/p>\n
Triple M\u2019s former radio personality Shaan Subra said he had just missed happy hour at a Dubai Marina venue when the situation changed in an instant.<\/p>\n
Speaking on Triple M\u2019s Breakfast with Xav & Katie on Monday morning, he described hearing an enormous bang before realising a missile had been intercepted overhead.<\/p>\n
\u201cHappy hour had just ended,\u201d Mr Subra told Xav and Katie live-on-air Monday morning.<\/p>\n
\u201cInstantly everything changed in a second because I heard the loudest bang I have ever heard in my life.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe thing rattled through my body, it was so odd I froze in that instant.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Subra said the sound was so powerful it sent shock waves through the roof top bar and left patrons stunned.<\/p>\n
\u201cHalf the people ducked, and hit the ground,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe other half of the people started running towards the inside of the pub.\u201d<\/p>\n
The explosion was caused by an Iranian missile which was intercepted by UAE authorities over the Dubai marina, according to Mr Subra, who described the surreal moment he spotted a burning piece of metal in the sky.<\/p>\n
\u201cObviously that\u2019s a good thing, but when that happens mid-air at that speed, shrapnel just goes everywhere,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cOut of the corner of my eye I see this flaming ball of metal just floating through the sky and landing across the road on a construction site.\u201d<\/p>\n
The former Perth broadcaster said the pub he was sitting in is geographically one of the closest in Dubai to Iran.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe president of Iran came out and actually apologised to a lot of the Gulf countries for how much Dubai had been affected in their conflict,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Despite the frightening moment, Mr Subra said life in Dubai had largely continued \u2014 and even said he was happy staying in the Gulf country and wasn\u2019t thinking about coming home anytime soon.<\/p>\n
The Australian podcaster went onto explain how regional crisis had emptied the hotels in Dubai making staycations cheaper for residents looking for a weekend away.<\/p>\n
