Cassie Porter\u2019s record-breaking charge announces her arrival on the big stage<\/a><\/p>\n\u201cYeah, it\u2019s still really kind of crazy. I mean, it wasn\u2019t long ago that I was making that putt to win the championship,\u201d Green said afterwards.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut I didn\u2019t realise it\u2019d been so long for even the males to win. So yeah, I feel really honoured to have my name on that trophy amongst so many other great players who have gone on to have really amazing careers.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd obviously I\u2019ve just come off a win on the LPGA, so I\u2019m really excited for the rest of the season as well.\u201d<\/p>\n
Green now joins Australian greats\u00a0Jane Crafter,\u00a0Jan Stephenson\u00a0and five-time champion\u00a0Karrie Webb\u00a0as local winners whose names appear on the Patricia Bridges Bowl.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s amazing,\u201d Green continued. \u201cAnd I see so many other names, Inbee Park, Nelly Korda. Those girls have had such great careers.\u201d<\/p>\n
Green began the final round with a one-shot lead over Argentina\u2019s\u00a0Magdalena Simmermacher, but the leaderboard swung wildly throughout the day.<\/p>\n
Porter\u2019s astonishing 62 forced the leaders to respond, though Green admitted she was largely unaware of the extent of the charge until late in the round.<\/p>\n
\u201cI actually didn\u2019t really know because I felt like there wasn\u2019t that many on the front nine,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd then we got to, I think it was the 14th, the par 3, and there was an electronic leaderboard and I saw Cassie\u2019s name up there and I was, like\u2026 I don\u2019t know. I couldn\u2019t remember what she started for the day, but I was, like, \u2018that is a very low score\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
Green briefly strengthened her grip on the championship with a birdie at the 16th before a dropped shot at the par-4 17th cut her lead to one heading to the final hole.<\/p>\n
\u201cLuckily I made a good bogey on 17,\u201d she said. \u201cI could have probably had that tee-shot end up in a worse spot. So it ended up being in the bunker and I just had to take my medicine and make a bogey at best.\u201d<\/p>\n
Standing on the 72nd tee with a one-shot lead in her national championship was a moment Green had imagined many times.<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah, absolutely,\u201d she said. \u201cI knew it was a wider fairway and I actually would say I got a member\u2019s bounce. I hit it in the right mounds and it bounced onto the fairway.\u201d<\/p>\n
Green\u2019s approach safely found the putting surface, sparking cheers from the large Adelaide crowd gathered around the 18th.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor a moment there, I couldn\u2019t see if it actually stayed on the green. So I was a little bit nervous,\u201d she said. \u201cBut the crowd was cheering for it and I figured they wouldn\u2019t cheer it if I missed the green. So that kind of settled my nerves.\u201d<\/p>\n
She would two-putt for the title, sealing her third professional victory on Australian soil.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut it was just different playing in front of home,\u201d Green said. \u201cI knew everyone wanted me to have the trophy in my hands at the end of the day. So that was a really nice feeling.\u201d<\/p>\n
Already a major champion, Green admitted winning the national championship still carries unique significance.<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah, I have said before that winning your home championship is like winning a major and I definitely still feel that way,\u201d she said. \u201cThis is probably one of the bigger weeks for me off the golf course in terms of internal pressure.\u201d<\/p>\n
Having her husband, fellow professional\u00a0Jarryd Felton, on the bag also helped steady the nerves during tense moments down the stretch. \u201cThere were a couple times where I was maybe a bit more down on myself from a shot or a result that was actually not bad,\u201d Green said. \u201cAnd he pulled me in and said, \u2018Hey, it\u2019s all right. You\u2019re actually doing pretty well. Just don\u2019t go too hard on yourself.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Despite the emotional victory, Green\u2019s celebrations will be brief.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m actually supposed to be on a flight in an hour and 45 minutes, so I don\u2019t really think I\u2019ll be doing a whole lot,\u201d she joked. \u201cI\u2019m a big fan of MAFS (reality TV show Married At First Sight) and it\u2019s on at seven o\u2019clock, which is when I\u2019m supposed to fly out. So I think I\u2019ll be at the airport watching that on the plane.\u201d<\/p>\n
Green will head straight to the Gold Coast for next week\u2019s\u00a0Australian WPGA Championship\u00a0at\u00a0Sanctuary Cove Golf & Country Club\u00a0as the Australian swing on the\u00a0WPGA Tour of Australasia\u00a0and\u00a0Ladies European Tour\u00a0continues.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, I\u2019ve got to a really hot start this year,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
