Noughties actor Zach Braff has revealed he suffered a secret binge drinking battle and would \u201cdrink to black out\u201d.<\/p>\n
The star is known for playing Michael \u201cJ.D.\u201d Dorian in sitcom Scrubs and rose to fame over two decades ago.<\/p>\n
Speaking for the first time about his issues with alcohol, Zach admitted he suffered some \u201cembarrassing\u201d moments.<\/p>\n
Zach appeared on a new episode of Dax Shepard\u2019s Armchair Expert podcast this week, where host Dax said: \u201cThe thing I\u2019ve been curious about you for 25 years is, what\u2019s your relationship with alcohol and drugs?<\/p>\n
\u201cWas there ever dicey periods?\u201d<\/p>\n
Admitting that no one has ever asked him that, Zach \u2013 who was forced to deny he was dating a chatbot earlier this week \u2013 replied: \u201cI definitely had binge drinking problems in my life.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy problem with alcohol was never, \u2018Oh, I want to drink at noon\u2019, ever.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo I rationalised that just drinking a f*** ton on a Saturday night until you blacked out wasn\u2019t an alcohol problem.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dax replies: \u201cRight, right. Also, you have depression and anxiety?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah, anxiety \u2013 the works\u2026. I definitely have panic attacks, and OCD, all that stuff,\u201d said Zach, who was most recently in a relationship with Florence Pugh, until their 2022 split.<\/p>\n
Continuing that he didn\u2019t dabble too much in drugs, Zach said that there was a time where his relationship with alcohol became overly strained.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think I had some embarrassing experiences where I was just drinking to much, and they accumulated.\u201d<\/p>\n
Zach, who is currently starring in the reboot of Scrubs, went on to say that he tried to go a month without alcohol to see the difference it would make, after being inspired by a podcast.<\/p>\n
Admitting the positive impact it had on his mental health, Zach said: \u201cOnce I\u2019d flushed the depressant out of my body I was feeling lighter, I was feeling happier.<\/p>\n
\u201cOut of curiosity I ended up doing 13 months, totally no booze.\u201d<\/p>\n
Zach then revealed that after over a year sober, he has incorporated alcohol back into his lifestyle \u2013 without taking it too far.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cIt isn\u2019t about, you\u2019re going to give up alcohol forever, I drink wine maybe once a week \u2013 at dinner with friends, socially.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t get hammered anymore, because I just didn\u2019t like myself like that.\u201d<\/p>\n
