(ABC News)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">No renewed flooding is currently expected in the Katherine River.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">But BOM senior forecaster Sally Cutter said forecasters are still modelling the system&#8217;s path, which would determine how much rain falls in the Katherine catchment.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2026-03-17\/nt-flooding-100-million-recovery-fund-cyclone-narelle-threat\/106462960\" data-component=\"FullBleedLink\" class=\"RelatedCard_link__rsgR9 FullBleedLink_root__lTw_U interactive_focusContext__yRhc_ interactive_defaults__AKxUU FullBleedLink_showVisited__g3Xvz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">$100m NT flood recovery fund announced<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP RelatedCard_synopsis__cFwMW Typography_sizeMobile14__u7TGe Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Territorians are being urged to &#8220;get ahead&#8221; of a possible cyclone that could arrive this weekend, as the government announces a $100 million Flood Recovery Fund.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;It will most likely be a cyclone when it crosses the coast, and it will weaken out as it moves across the land,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;It just depends exactly the path it&#8217;s taking \u2014 [if] it goes between Katherine and Darwin \u2026 Katherine won&#8217;t get the heavier rainfall.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It really depends exactly where it goes and there&#8217;s still a little bit of variation with the models.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Katherine officially transitioned to the recovery phase on Monday after last week experiencing its worst flooding in 28 years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The Member for Katherine, Jo Hersey, said residents were worried about the forecast and keen to get more information.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I know that everyone that I&#8217;ve spoken to is very nervous,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A man takes a photo of a flooded street.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/7f6649d1fb126807ce10145c64a55de8.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Katherine is recovering after its worst floods in 28 years. (ABC News: James Elton)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;We will keep very closely monitoring [the situation] with the BOM and I urge people to keep [up-to-date through] Secure NT.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Late yesterday, Power and Water Corporation (PWC) said only a &#8220;small number&#8221; of properties remained without power, but that preparations are underway for further severe weather.<\/p>\n<p>Weather puts NT health system under stress<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">On Tuesday, health authorities revealed the territory&#8217;s three largest hospitals in Darwin, Palmerston and Alice Springs had made &#8220;code yellow&#8221; declarations, which are triggered when a facility is over capacity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The declarations can mean the cancellation of some elective surgeries and moves to increase patient discharge.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2026-03-14\/flood-photos-katherine-palumpa-daly-river-beswick-darwin-river\/106434004\" data-component=\"FullBleedLink\" class=\"RelatedCard_link__rsgR9 FullBleedLink_root__lTw_U interactive_focusContext__yRhc_ interactive_defaults__AKxUU FullBleedLink_showVisited__g3Xvz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Top End floods in pictures<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP RelatedCard_synopsis__cFwMW Typography_sizeMobile14__u7TGe Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Much of the Northern Territory&#8217;s Top End was submerged by flooding this week.
