A second climber who plunged more than 50 metres in Queensland’s Glasshouse Mountains has died in hospital.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Emergency services were called to Mount Beerwah on Sunday morning after reports two people had fallen up to 100 metres while descending the mountain.\u00a0<\/p>\n

An 18-year-old Brisbane woman was assessed with life-threatening injuries and died at the scene.<\/p>\n

An 18-year-old man, also from Brisbane, suffered life-threatening injuries and was flown to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Police confirmed the man died from his injuries today. \u00a0<\/p>\n

The woman has now been identified by her given names, Lorielle Georgina, with the family withholding her surname.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The third member of the group, Lorielle’s sister, was rescued but not physically injured.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She has now lost her boyfriend and her twin sister in the tragedy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The mountain had been closed to climbers due to adverse weather and police said the route was slippery after light rain.<\/p>\n

The track reopened yesterday.<\/p>\n

Senior Sergeant Kylie McLellan said on Sunday it was “an extraordinarily sad and tragic accident”.<\/p>\n

“A group of young people hiking, partaking in some healthy activities \u2026 it’s an absolute tragedy,” she said.<\/p>\n

Senior Sergeant McLellan said the incident involved six climbers across two separate groups.<\/p>\n

“There was the deceased and her sister and her sister’s boyfriend in one group, then another group separate to that who rendered first aid,” she said.<\/p>\n

Lorielle’s family and friends have fundraised more than $50,000 for her funeral.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“No words can describe the loss of a loved one,” the crowdfunding page said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, two people were rescued from Mount Beerwah on Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n

Emergency services were called to the mountain about 6am after the hikers became stuck.<\/p>\n

It took rescue crews more than two hours to help the pair down.<\/p>\n
