{"id":549911,"date":"2026-03-19T05:37:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-19T05:37:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/549911\/"},"modified":"2026-03-19T05:37:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-19T05:37:08","slug":"how-2026-nfl-rule-proposals-would-affect-the-chargers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/549911\/","title":{"rendered":"How 2026 NFL Rule Proposals Would Affect the Chargers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a class=\"nfl-o-cta--link nfl-o-cta--underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.chargers.com\/news\/2026-nfl-offseason-dates\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2026 NFL Annual League Meeting<\/a> begins later this month in Arizona, and there are now two rule proposals that team owners will be able to vote on.<\/p>\n<p>The pair of proposals have been submitted by Pittsburgh and Cleveland, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The Steelers have proposed keeping a rule that was recently implemented where teams could have a video or phone call with up to five prospective unrestricted free agents during the legal tampering period.<\/p>\n<p>This allowed teams earlier this month to make travel arrangements with such players upon agreeing to terms on a new contract.<\/p>\n<p>Pittsburgh cited competitive fairness in its proposal submission.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the Browns have proposed a rule that would allow draft selections to be traded up to five seasons in the future.<\/p>\n<p>The current rule stipulates that draft picks can be traded up to three years into the future, but Cleveland wrote in its proposal that extending this timespan would give teams &#8220;greater roster-building flexibility by expanding the range of future draft assets available for trade.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>All proposals must be approved by 75 percent (24) of the clubs to be adopted.<\/p>\n<p>The 2026 Annual League Meeting will take place March 29 to April 1 in Phoenix.<\/p>\n<p>Of note: playing rule or bylaw proposals from the Competition Committee proposals will be announced next week.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The 2026 NFL Annual League Meeting begins later this month in Arizona, and there are now two rule&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":549912,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[559],"tags":[69484,271990,64,63,69482,593,85],"class_list":["post-549911","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-nfl","tag-app-homepage","tag-articles-bolts-buzz","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-homepage-cp","tag-nfl","tag-sports"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/549911","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=549911"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/549911\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/549912"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=549911"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=549911"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=549911"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
