Pull over and park the car, MAY-A has stepped into the Like A Version studio with a ripping cover of Stevie Nicks’ ‘Edge of Seventeen’.<\/p>\n
Unleashing her full leather-cuffed and torn stockings grunge rock energy, the Sydney singer delivers a full-bodied rendition of the 1981 hit from Nicks’ debut solo album.<\/p>\n
“When we started playing around with the idea of this song, we just played it in so many different ways,” MAY-A said.<\/p>\n
“And my guitarist Chloe (Dadd), she sort of built out the tracks. And I was like ‘you have fun playing with this today, I’m gonna go away’ because she does all the production stuff.<\/p>\n
“Then when I came back she was like ‘I did something crazy and you might hate this or you might like it’. She played me the beginning of what it was and it has that breakdown part because it goes into the heavier thing.”<\/p>\n
So while MAY-A’s version may be missing the iconic riff (the one famously sampled by Destiny’s Child in ‘Bootylicious’), the soft and sparkly start tearing into a right hook of a rock track feels quintessentially like her.<\/p>\n
