{"id":552213,"date":"2026-03-20T06:15:19","date_gmt":"2026-03-20T06:15:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/552213\/"},"modified":"2026-03-20T06:15:19","modified_gmt":"2026-03-20T06:15:19","slug":"ride2school-day-gets-kids-cycling-around-australia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/552213\/","title":{"rendered":"Ride2School Day gets kids cycling around Australia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thousands of Aussie kids chose to be active this morning by pedalling their way to school as part of National Ride2School Day.<\/p>\n<p>In Brisbane, ARA Australian Cycling Team athletes Molly McGill and Ryan Elliott joined students at St Peter Chanel Catholic Primary School as they hopped on their bikes as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/brisbanecyclingfestival.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brisbane Cycling Festival<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>McGill and Elliott, who are preparing to take on Australia\u2019s best cyclists at next week\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/tracknationals.org.au\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AusCycling Track National Championships<\/a>, said Ride2School day was a celebration of cycling.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"ARA Australian Cycling Team athletes Molly McGill and Ryan Elliott talk to students of St Peter Chanel Primary School as part of Ride2School Day and Brisbane Cycling Festival.\" height=\"1600\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/2400 speaking 20-3-2026_SSA_MQ__Ride2School_87511.JPG\" width=\"2400\"\/><\/p>\n<p>McGill and Elliot also handed out TrackNats tickets to students at this Brisbane school.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRiding your bike to school is a great way to stay fit and healthy and develop a lifelong love of cycling,\u201d Elliott said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether these students want to become athletes and represent Australia like us, or they just want to have fun on their bikes, it is good to be able to share our love of riding together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, in Melbourne, AusBike instructors delivered <a href=\"https:\/\/ausbike.au\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">skills and safety sessions<\/a> to the delight of Year 3 and 4 students at Newport Gardens Primary School.<\/p>\n<p>They were joined by Bicycle Network and The Honourable Tim Watts MP, Federal Member for Gellibrand, who hosted a breakfast BBQ to celebrate the joy of cycling to school.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"An AusBike instructor leads a skills and safety session at Newport Gardens Primary School in Melbourne during Ride2School Day\" height=\"1600\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/2400 melbourne ausbike ride2school.jpg\" width=\"2400\"\/><\/p>\n<p>AusBike instructors helped make Ride2School Day special in Melbourne.<\/p>\n<p>On the other side of the country, 114 students took part in Ride2School Day activities at Kensington Primary School in Western Australia.<\/p>\n<p>AusCycling staff hosted fun activities for the children, including an obstacle course, while a representative from South Perth Cycling Club spoke to parents about their new junior program.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A student on a bicycle rides under a pool noodle held by an AusBike instructor as part of Ride2School Day activities at Kensington Primary School in Western Australia\" height=\"2016\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/wa kensington.jpg\" width=\"3024\"\/><\/p>\n<p>One of over a hundred students at a Perth primary school who enjoyed Ride2School Day.<\/p>\n<p>AusCycling CEO Marne Fechner said the Ride2School initiative plays a vital role in building lifelong riding habits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRide2School Day is about creating positive experiences for kids and families while promoting safe, active travel.
