Dave Grohl<\/a> described the experience of being visited by his late bandmate Taylor Hawkins<\/a> in a dream, becoming emotional as he spoke about it.<\/p>\n

The Foo Fighters<\/a> drummer\u2019s death<\/a> in 2022 was one of a series of tragedies that sent Grohl into therapy, he told the Guardian<\/a> in a new interview, adding that he\u2019d had over 400 sessions.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have had these dreams that seem like visitations,\u201d Grohl explained. \u201cWhether it\u2019s from my mother, or my old friend Jimmy, or [former Nirvana bandmate]\u00a0Kurt<\/a>\u00a0[Cobain], or my father. And in the dreams, I know that I\u2019m dreaming, but those people are here. And it\u2019s as if they\u2019ve never left.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cI fell asleep on a couch\u2026 in front of a television. I thought that I\u2019d woken up, and [Hawkins] was sitting right next to me. It was so fucking real. He was happy.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis hair looked great; he was tan. The first thing I said was: \u2018Oh my God, we miss you so much.\u2019 He smiled. I said, \u2018Where are you?\u2019 And he smiled again and said: \u2018Dude \u2013\u2013\u2019 And I woke up. I was like: \u2018Fuck, I almost had it!\u201d<\/p>\n

Grohl said he\u2019d tried to avoid dealing with Hawkins\u2019 passing, as he\u2019d done with other challenging issues \u2013 but the death of his mother later in 2022 was different.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was with her every day leading up to when she passed,\u201d he said. \u201cI was with her when she passed. And she never lost her spirit, her light. \u2026 I let into my heart. Rather than just kind of keeping it up in my head and continuing on.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dave Grohl\u2019s 20-year Recurring Dream<\/p>\n

That experience, along with therapy, helped him understand that he\u2019d spent too much of his life being \u201cpulled in different directions emotionally without having this anchor, this centered feeling.\u201d<\/p>\n

With that realization, a dream he\u2019d kept having for 20 years went away: \u201cI walked into a house, set on a hill in the countryside. There was this door that would lead to an entirely different house: modern, very white, completely different than the other side which is very warm and woodsy.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn every dream there was someone with me and I\u2019d say, \u2018Oh my God, you have to check this out.\u2019 I would open this little door and bring someone into this other space.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, having learned that \u201cthere was this disconnection or division within myself, I don\u2019t have that dream any more.\u201d He added: \u201cAnd so a lot of the new album<\/a> has to do with exactly that.\u201d<\/p>\n
