Nicholas Brendon, best known for his role as Xander Harris in all seven seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has died aged 54.<\/p>\n

In a post to his Instagram page, his family posted in a slide post saying: “We are heartbroken to share the passing of our brother and son, Nicholas Brendon.”<\/p>\n

It said he died in his sleep of “natural causes”.<\/p>\n

Brendon drew international attention over the years amid multiple controversies, including a drug addiction and several public arrests.<\/p>\n

“Most people know Nicky for his work as an actor for the characters he brought to life over the years,” the post read.<\/p>\n

“In recent years, Nicky has found his passion for painting and art.<\/p>\n

“Nicky loved to share his enthusiastic talent with his family, friends and fans.<\/p>\n

“He was passionate, sensitive, and endlessly driven to create. Those who truly knew him understood that his art was one of the purest reflections of who he was.”<\/p>\n

In a separate statement to The Hollywood Reporter, it said, “While it’s no secret that Nicholas faced challenges in the past, he was on medication and receiving treatment to manage his condition, and he remained optimistic about the future at the time of his passing.”<\/p>\n

Brendon, born in Los Angeles in 1971, said acting helped him cope with a stutter, and he later served as a spokesperson for the Stuttering Foundation of America.<\/p>\n

He was a regular on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which aired from 1997 to 2003, portraying the vampire slayer’s devoted companion.<\/p>\n

He also appeared in films such as Demon Island and Psycho Beach Party, as well as television series including Criminal Minds, Private Practice, and Kitchen Confidential.<\/p>\n
