HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. \u2013 The Cleveland State men’s tennis team opened its Horizon League slate Friday evening, picking up a 6-1 victory at Northern Kentucky.<\/p>\n
“This was a solid first league match for us, our depth definitely showed itself today,” head coach Brian Etzkin<\/a> said. “Northern Kentucky always fights until the end, so this was a good test for us in the opening match of our league slate, and we are looking forward to the next one tomorrow.”<\/p>\n The Vikings were able to pick up the early doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots, as Lincoln Battle<\/a>\/Carl Gedlitschka<\/a> earned a 6-2 win at the top of the lineup and Nico Jamison<\/a>\/Cole Chappell<\/a> picked up a 7-5 win at No. 3 doubles.<\/p>\n Chappell carried his momentum into singles play then, as he cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles to give the Vikings a 2-0 advantage.<\/p>\n Jamison then put Cleveland State up 3-0 with a 6-3, 7-5 win at the No. 3 spot, before Devin Boyer<\/a> clinched the match for the Vikings with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles.<\/p>\n
