Dricus Du Plessis\u2019 coach slams Khamzat Chimaev as \u2018one-dimensional\u2019<\/p>\n
The South African champion is lesser known for his submission wins, with only two by that method in the organisation, instead opting to use his unorthodox striking ability to great effect.<\/p>\n
While it may not be the strongest aspect of his game on paper, his head coach, Morne Visser, wholeheartedly believes his fighter won\u2019t shy away from the wrestling of \u2018The Wolf\u2019.<\/p>\n
Even with the pedigree behind their opponent, Morne is actively encouraging his fighter to take it to the challenger, even if it means taking the contest to the mat.<\/p>\n
On the UFC Countdown video, the coach said: \u201cKhamzat doesn\u2019t know what it is when people want to wrestle him. He\u2019s only facing guys who try to get away from his wrestling.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re not trying to get away from his wrestling; we want to f- \u2013 \u2013 him up in his own game.\u201d<\/p>\n
Not only did he critique some opponents\u2019 attempts at tackling a bout with the 31-year-old, but he also made a very bold claim about their Chechen opponent.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou can\u2019t think you\u2019re going to beat my guy by coming with one thing, and that\u2019s wrestling,\u201d Morne exclaimed.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat guy\u2019s one-dimensional. You\u2019ve seen his stand-up? I wouldn\u2019t even give him a pro license for his s- \u2013 \u2013 stand up.\u201d<\/p>\n
Morne provided a strong message to the top contender in his final words.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cHe doesn\u2019t present a problem for us; we are the problem.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dricus Du Plessis summed up his unique fighting style in two words<\/p>\n
Joe Rogan has described the South African as a \u2018knockout striker with an odd style\u2019, and he certainly does not fight in the traditional styles of any martial artist.<\/p>\n
In some of his fights, he has taken wild swings that have missed by a good margin, while in others, he has thrown a punch and a kick at the same time towards his opponent.<\/p>\n
Asked how to describe his style, DDP said: \u201cMy style, I would describe that as very effective.<\/p>\n
\u201cSouth African style of fighting is going for it full speed, no retreat, throwing caution to the wind almost. That\u2019s the way we do things.\u201d<\/p>\n
