Nicholas Brendon posted a video of himself taking a swipe at former co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar, and coughing up smoke less than a week before he died on Saturday.<\/p>\n
The actor, who is best known for playing Xander Harris on all seven seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, went live on Facebook on March 14<\/a> to speak to fans while sitting outside what appeared to be his home.<\/p>\n In the 45-minute video, the TV star, who was 54 at the time of his death<\/a>, rocked back and forth in a chair while coughing aggressively.<\/p>\n As he continued to cough, he added, \u201cF**k this f***ng smoke. I sound like Bane.\u201d<\/p>\n He also talked a bit about Buffy, saying, \u201cI believe that the way that the show ended shouldn\u2019t have ended the way that it did.\u201d<\/p>\n Then, he took a pointed jab at Gellar, saying, \u201cSarah [who played the titular character Buffy Summer in the show] \u2026 she worked really hard but she sort of f***ed the show, in a way. She told everyone she was leaving way too late into the series, so [creator] Joss [Whedon] was not prepared for that. You have an arc every season \u2026 it wasn\u2019t fair to the crew, the cast or the show.\u201d<\/p>\n Buffy, which aired on both The WB and UPN during its seven-season run, ended in 2003. Gellar previously said she wanted to leave the show due to extreme physical and mental exhaustion, according to a January 2023 interview with The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>.<\/p>\n She also felt she had taken the character as far as she could. Obviously, she\u2019s had a change of heart since she recently tried getting a revival of the series off the ground, but that\u2019s how she felt at that time.<\/p>\n Hulu recently passed on the potential new series, and Brendon appeared to be happy with the streamer\u2019s decision. In his lengthy video, he said a reboot of the series should never be made without Whedon, who basically vanished from Hollywood in the early 2020s after multiple allegations of abusive, toxic and unprofessional behaviour<\/a> on set.<\/p>\n Brendon\u2019s eerie video was captioned, \u201cThere is some chit we should chat about. Come one. Come all.\u201d<\/p>\n Reps for Gellar didn\u2019t immediately respond to Page Six\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n His family confirmed his passing in a social media post on Friday.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are heartbroken to share the passing of our brother and son, Nicholas Brendon. He passed in his sleep of natural causes. Our family asks for privacy during this time as we grieve his loss and celebrate the life of a man who lived with intensity, imagination, and heart,\u201d they wrote in part.<\/p>\n Gellar, perhaps unaware of Brendon\u2019s recent confession, penned a heartfelt goodbye<\/a> to her former co-star on Instagram on Sunday.<\/p>\n \u201c\u2018They\u2019ll never know how tough it is to be the one who isn\u2019t chosen,\u2019\u201d Gellar wrote on Instagram, quoting Brendon\u2019s character. \u201c\u2018To live so near to the spotlight, and never step in it. But I know. I see more than anybody realises, because nobody\u2019s watching me.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n She added, \u201cI saw you Nicky.
