INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. \u2013 The Cleveland State men’s tennis team came up short in their second match of Horizon League opening weekend play, dropping a 4-3 contest at IU Indy.<\/p>\n
“IU Indy earned this one today, they played a great match and although this was a tough loss, I’m looking forward to how we respond when he hit the courts again next week,” head coach Brian Etzkin<\/a> said.<\/p>\n Despite losing the doubles point, Cleveland State’s top team of Lincoln Battle<\/a> and Carl Gedlitschka<\/a> earned a 7-5 win at the No. 1 spot.<\/p>\n After trailing 1-0 heading into singles play, the Vikings were able to quickly even the score with a 6-2, 6-4 win at the top of the lineup from Battle.<\/p>\n IU Indy responded with three straight wins though, clinching the match with victories at No. 5, No. 2, and No. 4 singles.<\/p>\n After the match was decided, Devin Boyer<\/a> picked up a 7-6(4), 7-5 win at No. 6 singles, while Nico Jamison<\/a> added a 4-6, 7-6(6), 1-0(5) win at the No. 3 spot to put the final score at 4-3 IU Indy.<\/p>\n Cleveland State will be back in action next Friday, hosting Youngstown State at 6:00 p.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
