Camera IconPat Voss could be seen making a crying gesture to Harrison Petty. Credit: Fox Footy<\/p>\nFremantle fan favourite Pat Voss has been hit with a misconduct fine for taunting Melbourne defender Harrison Petty in an incident that has divided the footy world.<\/p>\n
Voss was whacked with a $1500 fine \u2014 which can be downgraded $1000 with an early guilty plea \u2014 after he patted Petty\u2019s head multiple times before he made a crying motion.<\/p>\n
The second action appeared to be in reference to an incident from over three years ago when Petty was left in tears following a run-in with Brisbane\u2019s Dayne Zorko in a heated clash at the Gabba.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe MRO (match review officer) deemed that Voss\u2019s action of rubbing the head of Petty multiple times, combined with the \u2018crying\u2019 references was unsportsmanlike and unacceptable,\u201d the AFL released in a statement.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe action had the potential to instigate a melee or retaliatory action and is an action that we do not want to see flow down into Community or Junior Football and hence the charge to deter players in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n
Voss was on the receiving end of some criticism for his actions, including from Fox Footy analyst David King.<\/p>\n
\u201cSometimes you just need those energy givers to spark up, but it does go too far, and he overstepped the mark at quarter-time, and I think there\u2019ll be some reflection from the club that that\u2019s just a step too far,\u201d King said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think you\u2019ve got to have a status in the game to get away with that sort of stuff, and the harsh reality is, Voss, doesn\u2019t have that yet.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it\u2019s a bad look, and the AFL won\u2019t be thrilled with this, and I think the taunting rule will come into effect because in the end it\u2019s an ugly part of our game that we don\u2019t need.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir later said he was unaware of the exchange but he praised Voss for the general energy and enthusiasm he brings to the side.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe understand he treads a fine line at times, and he\u2019s got to manage that,\u201d Longmuir said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut he just brings so much energy to the group that we all buzz off it.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe plays with great energy. He tries to help his teammates out who are getting tagged. He goes after target players for us or players we want to try and negate from the opposition.
