Italian cyclist<\/a> Debora Silvestri was taken to a hospital after a horrific-looking crash during the women\u2019s Milan-San Remo one-day classic on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Several cyclists were caught up in the incident, with Silvestri tumbling over a guardrail as riders tried to avoid the pile-up.<\/p>\n

Silvestri\u2019s team Laboral Kutxa said the 27-year-old was conscious as she was transported.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter being attended to by medical and emergency services, Debora Silvestri is currently stable,\u201d the team said.<\/p>\n

Silvestri later revealed the extent of her injuries.<\/p>\n

\u201cThanks for the many, many messages I received. Sure not the final I had imagined,\u201d the 27-year-old wrote on Instagram.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel quite good, five ribs broken and microfracture on shoulder… could be worse.<\/p>\n

\u201cTime to recover but no worries, I will come back. Thanks team Laboral Kutxa for the support.\u201d<\/p>\n

The incident happened on the descent down the famous Cipressa climb, less than 20km from the end of the 156km route.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is absolutely terrible, what an absolute horror sight to see,\u201d the commentator said.<\/p>\n

Two of the favorites for the race, Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney and Kim Le Court-Pienaar, were also involved in the crash.<\/p>\n

Niewiadoma-Phinney was unable to continue, while Le Court-Pienaar remounted but finished in 99th place.<\/p>\n

Lotte Kopecky claimed victory, edging out Noemi R\u00fcegg and Eleonora Gasparrini in a sprint of five.<\/p>\n

In the men\u2019s race, a bloodied, bruised and battered Tadej Pogacar finally won the Milan-San Remo \u2018monument\u2019 classic to add to his cycling legend.<\/p>\n

Pogacar recovered from his own crash about 30km from the finish on Saturday to edge out Briton Tom Pidcock on the line by just half-a-wheel and win the race known as La Classicissima for the first time.<\/p>\n

The first of the season\u2019s five biggest one-day \u2018monument\u2019 races, the 298km marathon had been one of the few titles that still eluded Pogacar, and it looked as if his hopes would be dashed again when he was caught up in the crash that shredded the left side of his shorts and left him with scrapes and cuts on his leg.<\/p>\n

Last year\u2019s winner Mathieu van der Poel also went down but the duo managed to get back onto the back of the peloton at the start of the penultimate Cipressa climb.<\/p>\n

Pogacar worked his way to the front, stuck with an initial attack and then attacked himself towards the top, with only Pidcock and van der Poel able to follow.<\/p>\n

The trio had a gap of 25 seconds at the top although that was down to 11 seconds as they began the Poggio climb shortly before the finish.<\/p>\n

Pogacar attacked halfway up and managed to drop van der Poel. He tried several times to shake Pidcock but couldn\u2019t distance him and they were locked together as they crested the summit.<\/p>\n

Little could separate the duo on the descent, before Pogacar opened up the sprint 200m from the line and beat Pidcock by half a wheel.<\/p>\n

Wout Van Aert won a bunch sprint for third.<\/p>\n
