Max Holloway is looking to bounce back after his disappointing loss<\/a> to Charles Oliveira at UFC 326, and he has the perfect opponent to do it against: Conor McGregor.<\/p>\n

McGregor hasn\u2019t fought in nearly five years but is in talks to return at UFC 329 in July for International Fight Week. It\u2019s still unclear whether the UFC will pony up<\/a> the money needed to make that happen now that the pay-per-view era is over, but everyone involved is working hard to make something happen.<\/p>\n

Who it will happen with is still an open question and thus far we haven\u2019t liked the answers leaking from UFC headquarters. Since the promotion ditched Michael Chandler as an opponent, they\u2019ve offered Carlos Prates<\/a> as a possible opponent. Now Dana White has floated Ian Machado Garry.<\/a> Neither match-up is particularly exciting, which is on par for the promotion\u2019s current matchmaking.<\/p>\n

Now there\u2019s \u201cBlessed,\u201d who wants a rematch against McGregor. \u201cThe Notorious\u201d beat him way back in 2013, blanking the Hawaiian 30-27, 30-27, and 30-26 on the scorecards.<\/p>\n

\u201cConor\u2019s there. Conor\u2019s got one over me,\u201d Holloway said on a recent video (via MMA Junkie). \u201cHe\u2019s talking about coming back. I\u2019m coming off a loss. It looks pretty fun to get that one back with him. We\u2019ll see what happens.\u201d<\/p>\n

Holloway is a lightweight and McGregor wants to return at welterweight, but thus far all of the Mac\u2019s welterweight opponents have been puffed up lightweights anyway.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know a lot of people worry about the weight and this and that,\u201d Holloway said of 170. \u201cBut if he doesn\u2019t want to cut weight, then I don\u2019t want to cut weight. We can do it at any weight, to be honest. It\u2019s just about getting it back. At the end of the day, that would be a fun fight. But we\u2019ll see what happens. We\u2019ll see what way the UFC wants to go and that\u2019s all we can do.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf \u201855 is kind of busy right now and we don\u2019t know who to pick, I know Conor keeps talking about coming back. That\u2019d be a fun fight. That fight really excites me and weight wouldn\u2019t be an issue.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seeing two aging legends fight would be pretty great, but it\u2019s not really how UFC books this stuff. If someone is gonna get one over on Conor, they\u2019ll want it to be a younger opponent with a lot of years left on their career to maximize the bump they get. That could lead to McGregor fighting \u2018a no name\u2019<\/a> rather than Holloway.<\/p>\n

The door isn\u2019t completely closed though. Accusations of cheap, crappy matchmaking have been at the center of fans\u2019 complaints since the UFC White House card<\/a> was announced. If the UFC is willing to splash McGregor with cash to bring him back, they may decide it\u2019s worth putting him against a proper name.
