For two months, we\u2019ve heard one groom talk about being a wealthy businessman who owns several corporations. So when his wife rocks up expecting to find a chateau that belongs in the pages of Architectural Digest, you can understand her confusion when she\u2019s greeted with what can only be described as a retirement village complex. The subsequent house inspection becomes more brutal than a room reveal on The Block, where Shaynna Blaze rips you a new one because your d\u00e9cor\u2019s ugly and your rose gold tapware\u2019s cheap. <\/p>\n
JAMES WEIR: Read all the recaps here<\/a><\/p>\n When we first met Scott, he bragged to us about his business empire, multiple income streams and luxury lifestyle complete with a Lamborghini Hurac\u00e1n sports car that can retail for upwards of $440,000. His wife Gia has been gleefully imagining their life together. <\/p>\n But as their maxi taxi pulls up in the Gold Coast driveway, she discovers that one\u2019s expectations don\u2019t always match reality. She looks around the estate that seems to be dotted with identical semi-detached villas. It\u2019s resort living at its finest! But to Gia, it\u2019s a retirement village.<\/p>\n She rolls her suitcase through the front door to begin the formal inspection. Her shoulders slump and her face screws up in disgust. <\/p>\n \u201cUgh, it\u2019s a bit messy,\u201d she remarks. <\/p>\n The camera pans around the living area and kitchen, trying to find some mess that \u2026 doesn\u2019t quite exist? <\/p>\n Scott leads Gia into the master bedroom where a jacuzzi sits proudly next to the bed \u2014 a relic from an era when indoor spas were considered the height of luxury and not a mould breeding ground.<\/p>\n \u201cSo random,\u201d Gia says, her face contorting.<\/p>\n Her criticism continues as they move through the house.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat\u2019s THAT?\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWhy\u2019s THAT over THERE?\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cEw.\u201d<\/p>\n Scott\u2019s visibly hurt and upset. He has worked hard building a life for himself. This semi-detached villa is his pride and joy! <\/p>\n \u201cIf the roles were reversed and we were at Gia\u2019s house, I wouldn\u2019t say anything but nice things. I wouldn\u2019t say, \u2018Ugh yuck, this is shit\u2019 \u2026\u201d he confides in us. <\/p>\n It\u2019s almost as if Gia is looking for things to criticise. She doesn\u2019t even attempt to imagine what life could really be like here \u2014 sexy moments with Scott in the bedroom jacuzzi followed by complimentary Water Aerobics For Oldies classes in the communal swimming pool. Fabulous!<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s definitely not as clean as I thought. My house is way cleaner,\u201d Gia scoffs. <\/p>\n Look, while Scott\u2019s villa will never be featured in a glossy magazine photospread, it\u2019s actually better than the bachelor pads of most single straight men. Lest we forget last year\u2019s season of MAFS where Ryan brought Jacqui home to his brick storage unit<\/a>. <\/p>\n At Scott\u2019s, there\u2019s no pile of pizza boxes doubling as a coffee table. No suspicious stains on the couch. The man even has a walk-in closet \u2014 which is where the house tour continues. <\/p>\n Gia spots something immediately. <\/p>\n \u201cWhat\u2019s THAT?\u201d she points to a pink memory foam travel pillow sitting on a shelf. \u201cWhy\u2019s it pink?\u201d<\/p>\n She begins speculating it belongs to an ex-girlfriend. Or maybe a current girlfriend. Or perhaps it\u2019s evidence Scott has some sort of kink involving women\u2019s neck support accessories purchased from the Qantas duty-free catalogue.<\/p>\n We don\u2019t exactly know what Gia\u2019s theory is. But what we do know is she\u2019s being mean as per usual, and if my partner ever behaved this way, they\u2019d be kicked out of my semi-detached villa faster than you can say \u201cassisted living facility\u201d. <\/p>\n \u201cMy stuff wouldn\u2019t even fit in that closet,\u201d Gia continues. \u201cI have, like, two closets for myself and a whole beauty room with shelves.\u201d<\/p>\n Producers score this heartbreaking moment with an orchestra of violins. Truly devastating stuff.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s my house. I\u2019m proud of it,\u201d Scott mutters defensively.<\/p>\n The next morning, Scott makes the bed while Gia helpfully provides a compare and contrast analysis.<\/p>\n \u201cMy bed at home has, like, two sets of pillows, another big euro and then, like, three other pillows across here. And I have, like, a big thick furry mink. I have a heated blanket underneath because I\u2019m always cold. And I have three mattress toppers.\u201d<\/p>\n Scott should be mortified! He\u2019s sleeping on a Sealy Posturepedic with only four pillows, like some kind of peasant. <\/p>\n Despite the relentless criticism, Scott tries to salvage a romantic moment. He hugs Gia and stares out at the ocean view from his bedroom.<\/p>\n Gia whispers in his ear: \u201cYeah, I couldn\u2019t live here.\u201d<\/p>\n Determined to win her over, Scott decides to hire a yacht so they can mingle with his mates. <\/p>\n Stranded at sea, Gia outlines her life plan to Scott\u2019s friends: \u201cI want one or two more kids, have a big house, have a certain car.\u201d<\/p>\n While Gia\u2019s busy making Pinterest boards in her head, Scott\u2019s friends drag him below deck for an emergency intervention.<\/p>\n He tells them everything. How Gia has been the queen mean girl of Trash Tower \u2014 stirring up drama, distributing screenshots, forming cliques. He worries this is just who she is in real life. If they stay together in the outside world, will she be picking drunken fights with strangers over dinner at Hurricanes Bar & Grill? And scheming like she\u2019s Blair Waldorf running Surfer\u2019s Paradise?<\/p>\n \u201cIs she like this outside the experiment? Like, f**k, is this normal?\u201d Scott wonders.<\/p>\n Adding another layer of confusion, Gia wants to move in together immediately after the experiment ends.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t wanna do that. But I\u2019m trying to make her feel secure,\u201d Scott admits.<\/p>\n He hasn\u2019t told Gia the truth about how he feels because he\u2019s terrified of her flying off the handle. But it\u2019s time. <\/p>\n Back on dry land, in the comfort of his semi-detached villa, he sits Gia down for The Talk. <\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ve had a rough week. I don\u2019t even know if you want to be here,\u201d he begins cautiously, noting his wife\u2019s dismay at having to live inside this waterfront dump.<\/p>\n Gia immediately gets defensive and talks over him. \u201cWE ALL HAVE OUR MOMENTS! WE\u2019RE HUMAN BEINGS!\u201d<\/p>\n Scott tries again. \u201cDo you fully 100 per cent trust me?\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWith what? In what way? I don\u2019t understand,\u201d Gia fires back.<\/p>\n Gia! You saw a pink neck pillow and assumed there was another woman secretly living in the house.<\/p>\n Scott takes a breath. \u201cI feel like I\u2019m walking on eggshells because if I want to bring up something, I feel like you might misinterpret and get defensive.\u201d<\/p>\n Cut to Gia misinterpreting and getting defensive in five, four, three, two \u2026<\/p>\n \u201cOK, Scott \u2014 I didn\u2019t know you wanted to argue today,\u201d she snaps, before mocking his claims. \u201cYou\u2019re walking on eggshells? I don\u2019t know why you feel unsafe with what you want to say!\u201d<\/p>\n Scott literally starts backing away on his tiptoes like he\u2019s \u2026 like he\u2019s \u2026 like he\u2019s walking on eggshells? <\/p>\n At this rate, Gia won\u2019t have a marital villa to move into. She\u2019ll be alone. And there\u2019ll be no sympathy. <\/p>\n She made her bed [complete with three mattress toppers and a big thick furry mink].
