It’s possible this is the first time anyone was ever told they made an MLB roster like this.<\/p>\n

Texas Rangers<\/a> manager Skip Schumaker took a mound visit midway through Monday night’s exhibition game. He didn’t have any pointers he wanted to share with 24-year old pitcher Carter Baumler.<\/p>\n

Instead, he simply wanted to tell him he had made the team for Opening Day.<\/p>\n

Talk about a cool moment:<\/p>\n

Baumler was taken in the Rule 5 Draft this offseason, coming to the Rangers’ organization from the Orioles’ system.<\/p>\n

The key for a Rule 5 pick, though, is that he has to make the MLB roster and stay on it all season. Otherwise, he’s offered back to his old organization.<\/p>\n

And it wasn’t a given Baumler would make it. He only reached Double-A for six appearances last season and had never pitched in Triple-A.<\/p>\n

But Baumler clearly impressed the Rangers this spring.<\/p>\n

He’s been good at the lower levels of the minors, a 3.05 minor league ERA with 10.6 strikeouts per nine innings.<\/p>\n

And now, he’s coming to the majors with Texas.<\/p>\n

Schumaker just picked a really cool, unique moment to tell him that.<\/p>\n
