Ante Postecoglou insists he\u2019s better for his \u201cbrutal\u201d sacking from Nottingham Forest<\/a>, saying it was a \u201cwhack\u201d he needed.<\/p>\n

The former Socceroos coach was axed by English Premier League club Forest in October just 39 days after replacing Nuno Espirito Santo, who was sacked after just three matches of the season.<\/p>\n

In Postecoglou\u2019s eight games in charge in all competitions, Forest failed to record a win, drawing two and losing six.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

His nightmare stint came soon after he was sacked by Tottenham Hotspur in June despite leading the club to Europa League glory.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can\u2019t always be flying high and successful,\u201d Postecoglou told SEN Radio.<\/p>\n

\u201cSometimes you need to cop a couple of whacks.<\/p>\n

\u201cI still feel like what I do still has an impact at this level.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to win things still. I know whatever it is going to be, I have this thing in my head that this will be the best one I\u2019ve done yet because the recent experiences \u2013 maybe I needed them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Postecoglou\u2019s Forest axing was particularly savage, coming straight after a 3-0 home loss to Chelsea.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was brutal,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was in the coaches\u2019 room. I knew it could come any day, but they sacked me straight after the game. I hadn\u2019t done the presser yet, but the press knew.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was walking into the corridors. I wanted to leave, otherwise I was going to do something I regret. I wanted to get out of there.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll the roads were blocked. After half an hour, the roads opened. I got stuck at the traffic lights for 15 minutes. I had Chelsea fans giving it to me, Forest fans weren\u2019t much kinder, and then I had little kids coming up and asking for a selfie.\u201d<\/p>\n

Postecoglou said he \u201cpaid a heavy price\u201d, but after \u201c28 unbelievable years\u201d as a coach \u2013 which included title wins in Australia, Japan and Scotland \u2013 it was a case of \u201cwho cares\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I were younger, it probably would have (hurt), but it didn\u2019t hurt me because in the end I take responsibility for it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were enough people around me saying it\u2019s probably not a good idea (to accept the Forest job).<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought it was a challenge. I didn\u2019t like not working (after being sacked by Spurs) \u2026 (but) it almost looked like it wasn\u2019t going to be a good fit for me right from the beginning.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt didn\u2019t work out. It\u2019s probably hurt me reputationally, probably here in the EPL for sure, but I don\u2019t worry about that.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt didn\u2019t leave any marks on me as a person or a football manager.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf anything, it allowed me to know that next time, I will seek some counsel before I bite off more than I can chew.\u201d<\/p>\n

Postecoglou said his Forest experience was also a reminder that he was better off taking charge of a club from the start of pre-season rather that after a campaign had started.<\/p>\n

\u201cJumping in mid-season, especially in the Premier League but in most leagues, is just probably too much of a challenge for the way I do things,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s what I\u2019m holding out for (in terms of his next job).
