I\u2019m pretty gutted really,\u201d said van Gisbergen after being released from the infield care centre.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGutted for the JR Motorsports guys. Our car wasn\u2019t great, but we still managed to get ourselves in a good position.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLooked great. Kubota had some cool guests here. But yeah, pretty average way to end it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI haven\u2019t seen it yet. I\u2019ll watch it later and work it out, but I don\u2019t know yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the crash, van Gisbergen had been playing defence. The Kiwi had been struggling with an overall lack of grip that plagued his race.<\/p>\n<p>Zilisch had been the driver to beat, but was caught out by an ill-timed caution that lofted van Gisbergen to third having pitted just prior to the yellow.<\/p>\n<p>After the rest, Zilisch surged forward and was quickly harassing van Gisbergen for the lead before they clashed.<\/p>\n<p>Just moments before the incident, Zilisch\u2019s crew chief Mardy Lindley radioed: \u201cHe [van Gisbergen] is blocking the shit out of us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After the incident, Zilisch apologised for the clash but said he had no other option.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe spun off my nose,\u201d said the 19-year-old.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sorry, I think he thought he was clear. I don\u2019t know what I could have done differently there. I had nowhere to go.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the second race in a row for Zilisch involving a teammate after clashing at Iowa with Justin Allgaier.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just don\u2019t know where I could have gone. He didn\u2019t leave me any room to rejoin,\u201d Zilisch continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t lie to me if I f***ing wrecked him either, like you did at Iowa. If I wrecked him, tell me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Zilisch\u2019s crew affirmed to the teenager that he did not cause the crash. He led the field under yellow ahead of Richard Childress Racing\u2019s Austin Hill in the #21 Camaro.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Shane van Gisbergen made heavy contact with a wall at Watkins Glen.
