{"id":563873,"date":"2026-03-25T18:25:21","date_gmt":"2026-03-25T18:25:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/563873\/"},"modified":"2026-03-25T18:25:21","modified_gmt":"2026-03-25T18:25:21","slug":"bentley-cricket-club-shown-some-turf-love-with-opening-of-new-practice-nets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/563873\/","title":{"rendered":"Bentley Cricket Club shown some turf love with opening of new practice nets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Southern suburbs cricketers are on a good wicket with the opening of new turf cricket nets in Wyong Reserve, Bentley.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">They cost more than $100,000 and were funded by the city, the State Government and Bentley Cricket Club.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Wyong Reserve is home to the Bentley Cricket Club and the new facilities are only the second set of grass practice nets in the City of Canning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The new nets, which can be configured to hold up to six pitches, are considered crucial to the club\u2019s development and long-term success.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">They provide practice facilities that simulate match conditions for teams that play on grass pitches.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The new grass pitches are expected to attract more players to the club and help expand its junior cricket program.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The four existing synthetic cricket nets at Wyong Reserve have remained in place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Tenants at Wyong Reserve tenants include the Canning South Perth Football Club (Australian rules football) and the Royals Sporting Club (softball).<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Other upgrades at Wyong Reserve, such as new change rooms, storage facilities, accessibility provisions and improved viewing access to the sports field, are being considered by the city.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Mayor Patrick Hall said clubs and community groups were the heartbeat of Canning.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/450440503dedd2327927416c69e7cff633a1fed9.jpg\" alt=\"From left, Bentley Cricket Club president Jay Smith, Victoria Park MLA Hannah Beazley, City of Canning mayor Patrick Hall,  and past president and custodian of the turf wicket project Steve Shearing.\" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\"\/>Camera IconFrom left, Bentley Cricket Club president Jay Smith, Victoria Park MLA Hannah Beazley, City of Canning mayor Patrick Hall,  and past president and custodian of the turf wicket project Steve Shearing.
