Chris Picton has been moved out of the health portfolio \u2014 and replaced by former education minister Blair Boyer \u2014 in a new-look second-term cabinet unveiled by South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas.<\/p>\n

Former environment minister Lucy Hood has assumed the role of education minister, while Joe Szakacs has taken on infrastructure and transport.<\/p>\n

Emily Bourke, the former infrastructure and transport minister, will now hold the portfolios of tourism and environment, climate and water.<\/p>\n

The cabinet reshuffle comes days after South Australian Labor’s crushing election victory in which the party was returned to government<\/a> with a significantly increased majority.<\/p>\n

Mr Picton, whose office was responsible for an email blunder that dominated headlines during Labor’s re-election campaign<\/a>, will take on the state development, defence and space industries, artificial intelligence, and veterans’ affairs portfolios.<\/p>\n

Mr Malinauskas denied the outgoing health minister had been demoted.<\/p>\n

“I think everybody that knows Minister Picton knows just how he throws himself into everything,” he said.<\/p>\n

“He takes his responsibilities seriously. He’s had to do that in one of the more difficult jobs in government over a sustained period, and this gives him the opportunity to do it in a refreshed and renewed way.”<\/p>\n

As well as the role of education minister, Ms Hood will take on the newly-created job of City of Adelaide minister.<\/p>\n

Mr Malinauskas said CBD responsibilities had previously sat within another portfolio, but it made sense to create a separate role and give it to Ms Hood as the Adelaide MP.<\/p>\n

“A very significant amount of economic development happens for our state in the square mile. We’ve been rather assertive about wanting to see its development and coming to life,” he said.<\/p>\n

Looking to ‘get on with the job’<\/p>\n

The new cabinet was sworn in by Governor Frances Adamson during a brief ceremony at Government House this morning.<\/p>\n

“We have moved very quickly to establish a new cabinet, a refreshed and renewed team to continue the work to build the momentum in South Australia to make sure we capitalise [on] the extraordinary amount of opportunity that is before us,” Mr Malinauskas said.<\/p>\n

“After every election, there is an opportunity to renew, to refresh, and that’s what we’ve done, and we’ve done it quickly.<\/p>\n

“All we want to do is get on with the job.”\"A<\/p>\n

Michael Brown, Nadia Clancy and first-term MP Alice Rolls have all entered the ministry, following the departures of Zoe Bettison, Nat Cook and retired MP Andrea Michaels.<\/p>\n

Mr Brown has been appointed police minister, Ms Clancy as small business and multicultural affairs minister, and Ms Rolls will take the child protection portfolio from Katrine Hildyard.<\/p>\n

Ms Hildyard will become minister for human services, seniors and women.<\/p>\n

The roles of Deputy Premier Kyam Maher and Treasurer Tom Koutsantonis have remained largely unchanged, though Mr Maher has added arts minister to his responsibilities.<\/p>\n

Emergency Services Minister Rhiannon Pearce and Primary Industries Minister Clare Scriven \u2014 whose election is yet to be confirmed \u2014 have also kept their positions.<\/p>\n

Another first-term MP, Lawrence Ben, and Sarah Andrews have been appointed assistant ministers to the premier and arts minister respectively.<\/p>\n

Following the ceremony, Mr Malinauskas enacted his commitment to abolish stamp duty for those aged 60 or older who are downsizing to a newly-built home or apartment.<\/p>\n

‘Failed at every turn’<\/p>\n

Liberal health spokesperson Heidi Girolamo said Mr Picton had been dumped from the health portfolio.<\/p>\n

“He’s clearly failed at every turn when it’s come to fixing the health crisis,” she said.<\/p>\n

She said the email saga, which played out earlier this month<\/a>, was “utterly unacceptable” and warranted further investigation.<\/p>\n

Mr Picton took responsibility after his office released an email which it claimed to be from a late Adelaide cancer patient whose partner recently raised concerns about ramping.<\/p>\n

But the email turned out to be from a different person with the same name.<\/p>\n

“We need to know whether this is happening on a regular basis,” Ms Girolamo said.<\/p>\n
