Way back in 2019<\/a>\u2014and with his forthcoming blockbuster\u00a0It Chapter Two<\/a> still a week out from release\u2014director Andy Muschietti started getting publicly ambitious in a way that felt very indicative of the cinematic boom times of that pre-COVID era. Muschietti revealed that he\u2019d begun early talks with Warner Bros. about doing a \u201csupercut\u201d of his two Stephen King adaptations, reintegrating the relatively chronological films back into a form more reminiscent of King\u2019s massive, era-hopping novel. And he\u2019d throw in cut material and lost plotlines, too\u2014although probably not that one\u2014supposedly with an eye toward bringing the whole thing up to a six-hour running length.<\/p>\n

That didn\u2019t happen (yet), at least in part because Muschietti got the chance to go trawling through King\u2019s various side plots in a different way, via TV series IT: Welcome To Derry<\/a>. (Which massively expands, and arguably distorts, some of the historical interludes from the original book.) But don\u2019t get it twisted, you posse of insane clown fans: Andy Muschietti still has every intention of inflicting his six-hour IT\u00a0supercut on the world.<\/p>\n

This is per\u00a0Deadline<\/a>, reporting on an interview that Muschietti and his sister (and frequent production partner) Barbara gave to <\/a>SlashFilm<\/a>\u00a0about the release of their new film\u00a0They Will Kill You<\/a>, in which they certainly made it sound like the\u00a0IT\u00a0supercut is absolutely going to happen, with the only limiting factor being time. Including for their TV ventures: Welcome To Derry\u00a0hasn\u2019t\u00a0technically\u00a0been renewed for a second season, but all involved (including HBO president Casey Bloys<\/a>) have made it pretty clear that that\u2019s merely a formality, and Andy Muschietti told SlashFilm that \u201cthe show has priority over the supercut.\u201d<\/p>\n

That being said, Warner Bros. is apparently of the opinion that anything Muschietti does with this franchise is golden, up to and including needing to spend some money to film new scenes to serve as connective tissue for his big ambitious mash-up plans, as he revealed during an interview back in January<\/a>. (It\u2019s not clear if those new scenes would involve any of the original cast from either movie; Bill Skarsg\u00e5rd returned as Pennywise in Welcome To Derry, while Sophia Lillis had a small cameo in the show.)
