Cyclists can now experience the climbs of Wales from home following the launch of Virtual RideCymru, an indoor cycling challenge created by event organiser Threshold Sports<\/a> in partnership with ROUVY<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Having launched on March 16, 2026, and running until April 26, 2026, the virtual experience allows riders to tackle three sections of the RideCymru route. The initiative uses ROUVY\u2019s virtual cycling platform to provide a preview of the in-person RideCymru event, a 250 mile, three-day endurance ride taking place for the second time this September.<\/p>\n

Threshold Sports is the organiser of the event, which is supported by the Welsh Government. The route includes terrain such as Eryri (Snowdonia), Mynyddoedd Cambria (Cambrian Mountains), and Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons).<\/p>\n

The virtual challenge arrives as Wales prepares for increased international attention, with the Tour de France scheduled to pass through the country in 2027. The virtual stages on ROUVY include:<\/p>\n

Stage 1 \u2013 A 39.3km hilly route featuring the Great Orme and Conwy Castle
\nStage 2 \u2013 A 30km route passing Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) and descending through deep valleys
\nStage 3 \u2013 An 18.2km rolling stage through the Coed-y-Brenin forest<\/p>\n

The initiative follows the previous Virtual Ride Across Britain by Threshold Sports, which involved more than 21,000 indoor riders.<\/p>\n

Participants completing the challenge during the six-week window can enter to win \u00a3500 of Le Col cycling kit and a place on the sold-out 2026 RideCymru event. The organiser is also offering a one-month free membership to the ROUVY platform.<\/p>\n

Nick Tuppen, CEO of Threshold Sports, said \u201cPeople increasingly look outside of the UK for world-class riding, but RideCymru and Virtual RideCymru showcase what we have on our doorstep. The landscapes of Wales are breathtaking, the climbs are unforgettable, and through ROUVY\u2019s immersive technology, riders can now experience that challenge wherever they are in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wales Minister for Sports, Jack Sargeant, added \u201cWales is home to some of the most spectacular cycling landscapes in the world, and RideCymru captures that spirit of adventure perfectly.\u201d<\/p>\n

The physical RideCymru event, scheduled for September 11\u201313, 2026, saw its 200 places sell out nearly a year in advance. Registration for the 2027 edition is expected to open in September 2026.<\/p>\n

Threshold Sports was established in 2008 and organises various endurance challenges designed for participants of all abilities.<\/p>\n
