LOUIS &#8212; All-Star second baseman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/41773\/brendan-donovan\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brendan Donovan<\/a> was scratched from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/stl\/st-louis-cardinals\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">St. Louis Cardinals<\/a>&#8216; lineup Saturday night due to tightness in his left groin.<\/p>\n<p>Donovan was initially scheduled to bat leadoff against the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/chc\/chicago-cubs\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chicago Cubs<\/a>. The team said the move was for precautionary reasons.<\/p>\n<p>Chosen as an All-Star for the first time this season as a reserve, Donovan leads the Cardinals with 115 hits while hitting .278 this season. However, he&#8217;s struggled in 18 games since the All-Star break, with a .188 average and three extra-base hits. He has only five hits in his past 11 games, all singles.<\/p>\n<p>Donovan was replaced at second base by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/4999876\/thomas-saggese\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Thomas Saggese<\/a>, and the Cardinals shuffled their lineup to move center fielder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/4448736\/lars-nootbaar\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lars Nootbaar<\/a> to the leadoff spot.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"ST.
